I cannot stress this enough if you are unaware and have no idea and you're thinking of going to work for Dollar general as a truck driver. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else and do something else. This is a very underpaid shitty job and it is not worth the headache or killing your back and body over. I worked out of the Zanesville Ohio location as my first job making the mistake and absolutely downright regretted it after the first week and I had to do it for 2 years in order to hold up my end of the contract for Us Express because I agreed to a contract not knowing what I was getting into that. If I stayed with you if you expressed for 2 years that they would pay off for my truck driving school debt

I have over 20 years truck driving experience. I tried working for dollar general a year ago.. they are absolutely the worse company I have ever had the misfortune to work for, they had their heads so far up each others azzes (the trucking managers) they were talking out of each others mouths... They didn't know a darn thing about how to take care of drivers, they lied constantly and only cared about their own little group of buddies, and I swear they absolutely HATED the drivers they were supposed to be supporting..... And they thought they were god's gift to trucking..... and don't get me started on drivers services, the ones who's job it is to take care of issues like finding a driver stranded on the side of the road a hotel and such.... get this.... the drivers services CLOSE at 7 pm!!!!!!! and none of the managers/dispatchers answer their company provided cell phones!!!! I would rather work for swift, lol...

What do you eat on the road and what's it like in the winter and heat of the summer unloading the trailer? Really thinking about driving for DG, it would be my first trucking job and I'm a bit nervous to say the least.

Dollar General it's a peace of cake compared with family dollar or dollar tree.

I rather be a order selecting at a warehouse instead of doing truck driving for dollar general that shit not even worth it

As a fresh driver currently I’ll say it depends on the person .me personally…I don’t like it but it pays the bills until I find something better

Man I drive for Sysco and I’m tired of running down that ramp everyday 😭 it’s killing my knees I’m thinking of coming to dollar general

I literally just applied for DG and it’s 15 stops a week =3 Stops a day You get $60 per store 0.54 cent a mile and you will drive 1500-1800 miles per week And it’s a $20 pay rate (can’t remember what the $20 is for…I have 3 day orientation in 2weeks in San Antonio Tx… They pay for your rental car&Hotel to get there and $200 a day …and you will ride with a trainer for 5-8 days…then you will get your own truck and it’s all on you after that.. I’m from Dallas Tx and work for the Ardemore,Oklahoma location..

Majority of these DG stores have awful tiny blind side backing from busy roads No way for road trucks. Not a gig that would appeal to me.

If i can give some advice know before you navigo. Check the maps on satellite view and see if you can take major hwy instead of relying strictly on trucker gps and taking back country roads because if you broke down there is no safe haven for you too pull over . I understand sometimes its unavoidable but your whole drive doesn't have to be back country roads. Sometimes staying on major fwy is better its definitely safer plus back country roads no truck stops or bathroom no food too eat. The gps wants to take you the shortest route but the shortest route isnt always the faster route.. i avoid country roads unless im hauling hazmat and have to take a hazmat route. I can tell your a good driver your doing amazing

You're a better man than me, bro.. i drove for Dr. Pepper and the amount of lifting and relifting the heavy ass merchandise over a 14-hour days.. i was local and i hated every single day. Quit after 4 months..shit pay for the amount of strain on the body..

What you don't see is how the trailer was loaded when he arrived at his first stop. Majority of all Dollar General stores are blind side backing. Don't be fooled by what he is showing you in this video,don't believe me? The next time you see a DG truck making a delivery take a look and talk to the driver. All of the stores aren't layed out as the one shown I hated the stores located in strip malls because the pavement was broken and you're pushing rolltainers with bad wheels and torn nets. Especially when it's loaded with dog food or water or sugar or cleaning products(sometimes there's a combination of these). You're unloading in the rain, snow, 90 plus degree weather and sometimes in not so friendly environments so watch your back. If you run out of hours you have to spend the night at the store which is what i didn't like because there's no one around and at some stores the light over the freight door goes off. So you're completely alone in the dark on the side of the store.

Inner city Family Dollar floor to ceiling roller loads are far worse.

Recently left linehaul and haven't had too much experience backing, and turning tight corners- will their training help with that. Also is local and regional pretty much the same work, meaning you'll be unloading at all stops?

I hope you getting that 250.00 for unload that’s what dollar general is paying you you better tell your company or dispatch you need that unload fee
