The Darcy-Weisbach correlation you use to relate Delta(P) to velocity is more tailored to pipe flow. Works great for a shell-tube, not sure how valid it is for a PHE. Are there more suitable ways to theoretically validate pressure drop for a PHE?

More silliness. a snake eating its tail. you need the heat in winter. however in winter cold is available for free to cool the centers. Using energy to cool the centers in winter to produce heat for heating homes is such a waste of energy.A snake eating its tail

Thanks! Nice video! Do You have some video which explains differential switch and how it works as heat plate exchangers flow security device? If I good understood, differential pressure switch wait until the flow make enough pressure drop and press it. This is information that flow is good. I expect if the temperature of fluid drop that pressure will rise and on the end if it is frozen the pressure drop will be max and the pressure switch will be stile pressed? Where I am wrong? Thanks in advance ..

First of all, excellent videos, it's clear and simple, thanks! What value should we aim for for the wall shear stress? I read in an Alfa Laval document about the best design practices that ideally 50 Pa would be necessary with a minimum of 35 Pa for a fouling applications. Is that right ?
@heattransferchannel8474
@heattransferchannel8474 Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the belated reply, yes 50 is a good number and 35 should be considered as a bare minimum for fouling applications. If you are absolutely sure that fouling is not going to be a problem, though, you can live with much lower shear stress

how should we calculate the appropriate thickness of fix and movable frames and the number and size of bolts for specific GPHE model at specific operating pressure like 16 bar?
@heattransferchannel8474
@heattransferchannel8474 3 жыл бұрын
naturally the main factor about that is the pressure rating of the unit. A 10 Bar rated unit will have a certain frame and number of bolts, a 20 Bar rated unit will have a thicker frame and more bolts... another factor COULD be the seismic rating, but normally that influences the feet, but in some extreme circumstances and with a significant nozzle load, it might change the frame as well..... does it make sense?
@Khabbazhadi
@Khabbazhadi 3 жыл бұрын
@@heattransferchannel8474 yes it does sir. but how one should calculate the right thickness and bolting. consider sth of alfalaval products, say M15, with that size, and pressure class #150, design pressure 12bar, what is the right thickness for fix and movable frame? 40mm? 50mm? 60mm? another question why always movable frame has lower thickness than fix frame?
@heattransferchannel8474
@heattransferchannel8474 3 жыл бұрын
@@Khabbazhadi Alfa Laval, as all the other major vendors of Plate Heat Exchangers, uses a proprietary software to determine what kind of frame you need.... naturally the software is the results of theoretical studies AND real life experiences, that is the reason, normally, well established companies can calculate ore accurately what is needed, because they can count of a large number of units installed in the very same, or very similar, application

Hi , can you please suggest to increase the heat transfer rate in plate HE ?
@heattransferchannel8474
@heattransferchannel8474 3 жыл бұрын
If you mean to increase the heat transfer area, the only way is to add plates BUT you have to take care of the shear stress (see other video), otherwise you can increase the flowrate BUT that increases the pressure drop ....

thank u sir for ur elaborative video on PHXs. i do have a question though. based on what u said, if i want a 2" connection size, is it better to use a plate with a 2" port size at max, or use, for instance, a 4" port size plate and reduce the connection down to 2" ?
@heattransferchannel8474
@heattransferchannel8474 3 жыл бұрын
if you have a 2" connection, I would recommend 2" port heat exchanger. Every time that you reduce the size of a pipe you have some undesirable pressure drop. Does it make sense?
@Khabbazhadi
@Khabbazhadi 3 жыл бұрын
@@heattransferchannel8474 it does. but just take port and connection pressure drop into consideration, what's the difference between '4" plate reduced to 2"' and '2" native plate size', pressure-drop wise?

@@Khabbazhadi Well, if you have 4" pipe because you need that flowrate, the moment you squeeze it down to 2" you will have significant pressure losses... how much depends mainly on the flowrate.... so, if you have 4" piping the best possible solution is to have at least 4" ports...
