I once caught a bird at Fripp Island as well. The moment I cast my bait (shrimp), a bird headed towards it and accidentally got hooked on its leg😂

I had this happen to me and when I picked up the rod it did have about a 5 pound channel cat on it. The fish was actually hooked in its eye... and I’m pretty sure it pulled that rod from the bank so guessing a bank fisherman lost his rod n reel and left earlier that day. I use baitcasters and gave the spinning setup to a friend. 😂

For all you people who are worried about putting the parasite back in the water. You might want to consider what happened to the sheepshead and if it got fried whole or filleted

“Stingrays don't have feeling in the barb, but they certainly feel pain where it is attached to their body. Don't rip and pull, just snip it clean. If you snip it, it will grow back, but they will be defenseless against predators.” Copied from google. He was going to cut the part they don’t feel but realized why do that if you’re just gonna throw it back anyways, all it does is leave them defenseless in the wild until it grows back.
