Hi Chris re your comment about the tripod not being really necessary, one advantage over it just being on the ground is if it's knocked it shouldn't fall over because it will be like having it in gimbles👍

@mikedowning4603 Hi Mike totally, I didn't mean about it not being necessary as I use one regularly, just on this occasion I had forgotten it. I found I ended up not showing alot of the bushcraft side of things because of it which was a shame. So must remember next time 🤣 Thanks for your input. Always welcome and apreciated.

Love it and hate it all at the same time. 🤣🤣 I'm really keen to get him back on the road and have lots of big adventures next year. If you have a look at my Adventure Bike Riders Festival 2024 video, I did that on the F650, it was great fun. All the best with your bike. Fingers crossed for you it all runs well 👌🤞 I love the budget approach to things. It's not always the smallest or the lightest option, but hey if it works, it works 😉

I didn't know that you'd got the Harley back and running, at least you've got something to fall back on if needed. I think Custard is well worth persevering with, He's a Himmi 450 beater in my eyes, as good if not better! Mind you, reliable 'leccy bits required for a trip to the Hebrides! Fair play to you, I wouldn't want to camp up there in the summer, let alone this time of year... Just by way of a 'Heads Up', If you want a good mechanic to look at it, Overland & Classic at Melton Mowbray is the place to go, He's s***hot with elderly BMWs, not that far from you i think. Good Luck!
@anidiotonboard65393 күн бұрын
@kenbrooks7794 yes, it took 7 months but I finally got it back. I'm not going to lie, I struggle to trust it at the moment. But I have been using it daily for the last month and really am enjoying it again. The funduro certainly is a cracking bike, but it definitely needs a few more bits to make it right for me. I need a taller seat and could so with lifting the suspension somehow, but all that can wait anyway. Need him to be mechanically sound now more than anything. It sounds nuts, but I've been wanting to do it for a long time. I really don't have much of a plan other than to go until I can't go anymore or run out of money 🤣 Ahh excellent, I shall keep that in mind thank you. Melton isn't all that far away. 😁

Now its good to go only done a willing 130kph (NZ) but love the town manners more good tourque plenty of power, not a sports bike but dimensions away from the old Himi 1st 2nd gears specificly short for off road 3fd a oittle longer but still short then heaps of long torque from 4th gear on good manners too can do 55kms easily in 4th then just open her up i stantly to get you to 100kmph and she just keeps pulling. Then their is the superb handling OMG i left a 2023 KTM adv 390 for the new Himi and there is nothing better about the KTM, better manner better comfort smoother power delivery better sound much sweeter engine sound superb handling great TFT even the stock tires are a fanrastic total suprise!! Yer its only been 2 weeks but i ride daily and ive been on a bike for 40 yrs more bikes than i can count i looked around a lot but when i tested this Himi i knew it was a winner. Take a run in Himi out to play they loosen up good and better after 2000kms im assured! RE knocked one out of the field i reckon! Cheers.

Did i mention near $3K cheaper than the KTM too and I had to spend another $2k on the KTM to really get the 390 to an almost good set of manors Including way to much effort required to remove 50% of the vibes which were really aweful. The Himi stock $5k in the end cheaper is blindingly better and to be honest i could go on racing about the Himi, perfect for NZ shitty roads and green lanes...........

I recall a building like that in Nan Ty Aryan (scuse spelling) at a MTB Wales trail... 500 red Kites flocked to be fed raw meat in the evening where we camped up..after pounding the trails all day on mountain bikes. -They had been on the verge of extinction - Utterly epic moment! You haven't had a lot of time to give it a good shakedown and a bucketful of problems would've taken the shine off your ride. Good vid, like you I have accumulated a few tents (14 running total😅) But the baker style tent is a good design for biking and a couple of years ago did look at the Ribble but wasnt sure of the durability so went for a one tigris bungalow 2.0 but being single skin the condensation was too much. I then found a used wild country aspect 2.5 for £100 and bought that and is a very good tent. Wild country stopped making it and brought out the Helm but think they missed out there. Will be interested to see long term how the Ribble does but it's a good setup.
@anidiotonboard65393 ай бұрын
@yetiibob8407 😄 you are certainly a kindred spirit. I just like tents 🤣. I've been trying to find the perfect one for ages and something always seems to be flawed in one way or another. I've just spent the last 4 nights in the ribble and it was fantastic. I had abit of rain, and some light wind and it was fine, but nothing too adventurous so far. I did however use some tarp clips to pull the ends out and it worked well. Kept the outside off the inner the whole time. I'll get some use out of it over the rest of the year and see how it holds up and do a long term review 👍
@anidiotonboard65393 ай бұрын
@yetiibob8407 I've seen the helm tents a few times now, as well as a couple of Alpkit tents I like. The alpkit is brilliant and can free stand also on rocky ground. Pretty much you and your kit weigh it down, but its nearly 300 quid. The helms look good, but at the same time they have a lack or porch facility and the price point is quite high too. I know you get what you pay for and all that, but sometimes I just think there are bargins to be had if you look around. 😉

I've yet to find the perfect tent. Everything is a compromise. Like you said, that the ones with black-out interiors are great. Although, I have noticed that they are sods when you are trying to find something in the sleeping area that you've lost, especially dark-coloured things. I've tried loads. I even had the Galaxy 300 which although they seem to be the unicorn for motorcyclists, it just didn't gel with me. Teepees have lots of advantages but it does feel a bit odd when you're the only one with one on the trip :) and they're bloody noise when the wind ramps up. My current Kobuk Valley 2 tent ticks all the boxes, but like you I'm a bit long and my feet touch the sides. I took a big one with me to the ABR this year, my old Outwell Birdland. Load of room, taller than me but 13.5 kgs. The one tent I have the fondest memories of was one of first ones, a Khyam Biker. Really quick to set up with that mechanism, but that same mechanism broke quite soon. A guy I met at the ABR swore by his Lone Rider. The search goes on ...
@anidiotonboard65393 ай бұрын
@ianowen4481 and that's just it. Compromise.......if you want under 100 quid then you are going to suffer somewhere. The lone rider tents with the big open porch bit that you can park your GS in 😉, look great, but theyvare heavy and pack down large, not to mention the price tag. Your teepee was fantastic, but it looked like you were carrying a body round on the back of your bike 🤣🤣 I have fond memories of that trip. For me this ticked all these boxes; Sub £100 Space for me and gear (it's a 3 person) Porch to cook in Sub 5kg Smallish packed size Fairly versitile Cons however are; No blackout (if it bothers you) Ends of the 'tunnel' touch the inner in abit of wind Longevity?? 🤷♂️ I can't really think if much else wrong to be honest. It's all positive at the moment. Only time will tell.
