I’m targeting the fish in the top meter of water here but at 20m range the beam will be around 4.5m deep at 18degrees beam angle. If the fish go off the screen when they get closer to the boat they are deeper

How you tell how deep they are ? Are you using top water or spinner bait?
@OldSon_Fishing9 ай бұрын
I’m using a surface fizzer and then a shallow crank bait I’ve got the transducer on a zero degree mount so it looks out across the surface of the water. At night the feeding fish tend to be higher up in the water column looking for bait

Great video again. Do you see anything in the way they're swimming that makes a bite more likely? I reckon when there are a few fish, it tends to be the ones moving fastest or in a different direction to the others that tend to turn/bite
@OldSon_Fishing9 ай бұрын
Yeah I haven’t noticed too much of a difference, although a fish facing towards you will be more inclined to chase a soft plastic, where as a suspending hard body worked slowly the Barra has time to turn and catch up with it

And what do you look for when you try finding barramundi if you don’t mind me asking
@OldSon_Fishing11 ай бұрын
I always look at water temperature, especially in the dry season/cooler months, bait on the surface is always a good sign, fish will sit in eddies and along current lines, Egrets along the bank are a good sigh there’s bait there. The Active Target makes a big difference to finding fish too. You can pull up, have a Quick Look with it and move on if nothing is there
@fc-saltyy715111 ай бұрын
@@OldSon_Fishing so true I’ve been using live scope for a while now but it has made me realise even though u can see the fish doesn’t mean u can catch them on them days where they just bite nothing
@fc-saltyy715111 ай бұрын
Hey oldson what tides do you look for when fishing for Barra and what type of lures do you prefer using
@OldSon_Fishing11 ай бұрын
Good question! You can catch Barra on any tide, you need to fish certain places on certain tides, some fish move up and down with the tides so on a big tide I’ll go right up a creek or river on the top of a tide or towards the mouth on the low. Neap tides the fish don’t move as far up and down, it’s just using your electrics to find where they are. Also each river and creek is different in its characteristics and the fish will behave differently according to their environment and food source. It’s time on the water working all these things out to get an understanding of what is happening in each area, eventually you start piecing it all together
@OldSon_Fishing11 ай бұрын
I only really use a handful of lures these days. The Double Clutch 115 suspending is my go to lure, also the suspending Current master in the cooler months. I like a 6inch soft plastic rigged with a stinger hook and the same in 5 inch And at night I love to throw a Fizzer around
