It was a Pastoral Chorale.( hymn ) written by Hans Leo Hassler. (1564 - 1612) -from the 1500s -adapted & used by many composers, including Bach (JS). It was also notably selected, adapted & partly rewritten , popularized by the modern maestro Paul Simon in 1974-75. Masterful

@@margaretfitzgerald7187 Wonder if Paul gives credit on his record to the previous writers? The tune is so old that it's probably in public domain, and it isn't needed, but still anyway, I could NEVER feel good about recording a tune like this and just putting my name on it knowing full well that I nicked a lot of it. Believe the bridge is totally his though.
