I stumbled across this video and listened to it on a good sound system. One may not like this type of instrument, and that's fine, but to read the negative & sometimes uneducated comments about such a gifted musician saddened & disturbed me.

This performance of the Bach Passacaglia was maddening. He couldn’t keep in tempo at all, and was not helped by unnecessary ornamentations. My benchmark for this work is, and will likely remain, Karl Richter’s. It’s on KZbin.

Karl Richter was of a different era and not particularly interested in exploring "historically informed" performance practices. You can not compare apples with oranges.

@@terryhicks8811 Point taken, but irrelevant. Nathan's rendition was NOT historically informed. For HIP, I would go to Leonhardt, Koopman, or even Latry (!), if that's what you want, but not this one.

A beautiful introduction of this new instrument. I heard the Klais in person years ago, in the 80’s. I wish I had paid closer attention to see how Fisk has changed the instrument. At the time I thought it was a northern German organ, is it more of a hybrid now?

She said, “A pretty terrifying thing happened, politically.” The 2014 U.S. coup in Ukraine where we removed their elected President? The resulting U.S. proxy war there? Shameful exit from Afghanistan, leaving our allies slaughtered? Defunding police? Rampant crime across the city? Terrifying subway violence? 7 million illegals raping and murdering? The $6 trillion in new debt? Adding $1 trillion of debt every 90 days? Lots of terrifying things happened politically. Hard to pick just one. Let’s hope her song is a prayer for change.

Thank you Dr. Karosi. I listen to the Mass every Sunday afternoon after I return from church (😃) to hear you play liturgy and hymns. Having watched practically all your videos, I know you don’t need printed music yet it still always amazes me seeing you use only the pew edition of the hymnal (if the camera is true). I am the level of organist that needs the accompaniment edition of the hymnal and liturgy and printed music for EVERYTHING. Your hymn playing is inspiring, I wish I were there in person to sing with the congregation. This demonstration of the organ you playing every week is appreciated.

Thank Balint! Good instrument! Only two considerations. Feet pistons are crowded into the left and accessibility to the bench on lateral sides ( agility trials for "young"" organists.= claps only on final). Enjoy

That's right! CandleMass is 40 days after Christmas, February 2. Right in the middle of the cold and dark of winter, the church blesses the candles which give much needed light and warmth to humanity during a dark and cold season. It is a simple gesture by the church to sanctify what is good, and holy, and without exception gives great comfort to the human condition.

Superb playing by Mr. Laube; very articulate and precise however the music sounds very rushed as if he can't wait to get it over with. Slow down a little and put a little more "heart " in it is my advice. The organ doesn't particularly impress me.

The sound of this organ has absolutely nothing in common with that of instruments from Thuringia or Saxony from the 18th century. In this fact Mr. Laube is wrong. The sound is typical for a German organ from the late "Orgelbewegung".

Yes, indeed, the remarks I made were specifically only about several *new* 8' stops which are modeled after those in Arnstadt - the Gross Gedeckt, Viola di Gamba, etc., which are sonorities, up until now, not represented anywhere else in Manhattan. Certainly the framework of the instrument remains neo-classical in its conception, and Fisk did everything they could to improve the situation as much as possible - namely in replacing most of those 8' stops of the organ and substantially revoicing the rest. Of course, it is no Central German Organ - I know the originals very well - but this was an opportunity to improve the situation considerably, and bring these new 8' sonorities 'modeled after' those sounds into the fabric of an organ from another mid-century aesthetic. On this level, I found the result quite convincing!

I noticed this too. Was thinking something was hitching the video playback, but yeah, it's the actual playing. I'm sure he's a great and talented organist, but I've not noticed this kind of constant pausing so much before. It messes up the rhythm.

I like much of Buxtehude's music, but too often it is presented far too brightly whether it is due to the instrument or the performer's registration. Neither of these issues are present here.
