You mean why they do not use front differential? The tyres are so big and have such a huge tread also engines are quite powerful for such light cars that if they jump in a mud pit with some gas then it will wear down the diff very fast especially so when they also constantly turn right and left. Another reason is that often it just is not needed and will pull itself out of a hole even without one (you can sometimes see it in this video). For example at 1:24:40 i think the red car had broken his front diff because of the reasons i mentioned before.

@@ottokar8838 , Yes, I meant front lock. If the differential is not locked, then it wears out when slipping. In many moments, it is clear that it is literally not enough to jump out a little, and the front differential is unlocked. My question was rhetorical, everyone decides how to go, but the logic of this tactic is not entirely clear to me.

@@AytuctThe places where they did not use the diff but it was also clear that they would not make it out were mostly spots that they would not have been able to get out of even with a diff (or the chance of braking it was way too high since this surface takes a big toll on parts like diffs). There are some parts (even in this video) where they do use their front diff but in the case of these examples it was just too risky and not worth it. This race for different classes was either 2 or 2,5 hours long so priotizing a smooth and problem free ride that does not wear the car down too fast was the key to victory. In addition to that this was a 3 day race (1st day - prologue, small and simple track to get the fastest time for a good starting position. 2nd day - the track which was shown in this video, 2 or 2,5 hours. 3rd day - same track again but this time 1,5 hours) so they had to be weary of not breaking the car before the final day aswell. Not sure, different cars, different engines. Car with number 377 has a Honda K24 with K20 Type-R head for example. Cars that get good spots and start with number 3 (the highest car class) use gasoline engines. Other classes are quite mixed between gas and diesel.

These cars are so light that sometimes it is smarter to drive slowly :) also since the ditches are so deep and soft flooring it would only send it even deeper in the ditch and the you would be even more stuck.
