I remember when Tim Hortons coffee used to be good. Not any more. And now they have thawed out donuts instead of fresh ones. The place has turned into a poor serviced fast food joint. The good days are gone. What a shame.

I worked at a Curves as a second part-time job in 2005-2006 when I was 19. It was hard getting people to sign up and the price was monthly back then. Then they had a 60 day cancelation policy. I love the workout and looked amazing but the owner Linda was 🗑 and because of her attitude caused the demise of the Silverado Ranch Las Vegas location. I had to get a lawyer and almost sued her because she still tried to bill me years after we canceled. I decided to start college in AZ and she was mad both my sister and I quit. Well she wasn't supposed to charge us since we worked for her. In addition, we the Curves policy states you can transfer to another location.

had a chick-fil-A open up in my home town (buffalo ny) & the line was wrapped around the parking lot & the corner for days & this got me wondering how much money did they make because our city isn’t that big & the food options aren’t to plentiful say as where i just came from Dallas. so now im here lol

Hundreds closed due to COVID. Then very little comeback in membership. Sadly I believe our location is NC will b closing due to a new lease to another business. We love our curves but curves is trying to target millennials instead of older women who don't want to go to gyms. Millenniums will go to gyms to b around men

I was an owner for 5 years in Australia. I absolutely loved my club and my ladies. I quickly worked out that not everyone is there just for exercise - a huge part of our clientele were there for the social side. As a 50 plus women it is really hard to meet people and so having someone ask about your day and chat for 30 mins while you get the benefit of movement was huge. There is defiantly a space in the market for Curves. I thought everyone was there like I was as a young mum but I soon learned my demographic was 50 plus and once I let go of having to get all the young ones it was fantastic. What I did not like about the business is the marketing strategy, when US took over they did not look at the AU demographic, our marketing fees were not used to promote where we needed it and to who we needed to. I also found that at the fees we were told to charge (so that everyone was on the same level) we could not make a profit. 60% of your fees would go in bills then you had to pay wages on top of that so it was just not sustainable. Not sure what they charge per month now but I totally understand why gyms charge $50 per week - the hidden fees in running a business are huge.

@Vettedbiz

Hi! By 'default rate,' we mean the percentage of franchisees in a system who couldn't repay their SBA loans, resulting in 'charged off' loans. This rate shows the portion of franchisees who faced significant financial challenges.

Agree with the industries mentioned except Senior Care, as you need an office to interview/recruit caregivers, as well as meetings with your existing staff. Not a good idea to base these activities out of your home.

Hi! They don’t publicly disclose sales data for unit franchisees, but it's estimated that they can generate around $60k in annual sales. This can vary depending on the market and the individual franchisee's performance.

I was curious to know how you calculated the 20% failure rate for Ductz. According to their FDD, I see 8 out of 75 leaving the system in 2022 (10.66%), 1 out of 75 (1.3%) in 2021 and 1 out of 73 in 2020 (1.36%). Maybe I'm not looking at this right. Can you please advise?
@Vettedbiz
@Vettedbiz Ай бұрын
Hi, we appreciate your curiousity. The 3-year failure rate is calculated by adding the number of units that closed each year over the past 3 years (2, 8, and 1) and dividing that total by the number of units at the end of the most recent year, which is 2023 (68). Based on this calculation (11/68=17% rounded), the most recent data shows an approximate 17% failure rate over the last 3 years.
@fnm500
@fnm500 Ай бұрын
@@Vettedbiz Thank you for your response! Shouldn't we look at the total number of units that have closed over the last 3 years (11) and divide that by the total number of unique units that have existed over these last 3 years (79) which gives a failure rate of ~14% (which isn't great, but definitely lower than 20%). May I ask why you only consider the surviving units in your denominator? Anyway, sorry if I am being pedantic 🙂
@Vettedbiz
@Vettedbiz Ай бұрын
Thank you for your follow-up! There are indeed different ways to calculate a failure rate. One approach, as you mentioned, is to divide the number of units that closed over the last three years by the total number of unique units that existed during that time (79), giving a failure rate of around 14%. This method is valid when you're looking to reflect the percentage of units that didn't stay open compared to all that operated in that period. In our case, we chose to use the number of units at the end of the period (68) as the denominator because it reflects the current base of units. This approach helps to assess the impact of closures in relation to the units that are still active, providing a snapshot of the system’s “health” at a given point in time. Both methods are valid and offer different insights, depending on the analysis you're looking to perform. We hope this clears up your question, and we truly appreciate your curiosity!
