Fia acting like Colvin is bad or whatever is what bugged me about the book too, he WAS a sweetheart. That part toward the end where all the secrets came out, Fia acting like she was betrayed again made me mad, epically since most of the stuff she already knew. Also if you haven't read it you should check out The savage and the swan by Ella Fields.

Right!? Nothing worse than a FMC complaining a man swooning over her isn't swooning enough or correctly. 😅 We have not read that! Thank you for the recommendation. 💜 We'll add it to our TBR.

Hahahaha. We felt the same! But honestly this book really is the worst of them in our opinion. The worst thing in the others is really the non-consent stuff.

omg, i loved the book too. *SPOILERS* Istg, the Nightmare had the most hilarious lines and his attitude to things was very entertaining throughout the book. Elm is very charming and funny and i can't wait for this time in book 2, lol. Rayvn is such a cutie, he is so in love with Elspeth that he would forgive her for anything. I loved his care and love for his family and Elspeth, moments where he was pissed were beautiful to read. Exactly like you guys mention in Market Day, i was like you go captain, tell them. Elspeth was such a nice character too, at times i was like girl it is clear as day what the nightmare is trying to tell. 11 years and she couldn't understand? no way, lol. The relationship between nightmare and Elspeth was beautiful too, it was funny when they argued. I loved that nightmare was caring towards her too, and he was a supporter for Rayvn and Elspeth, hahah. The world Rachel created was amazing, i could imagine tv-show or movie being created and it would look so freaking cool with the different light projections of the cards. I loved the book but like you guys said, i also wanted more. A lot of scenes could have had more continuation to them. ive also read a lot of peoples' review saying it was boring and too difficult to understand, but like its not. I agree with it being a lot of new things at start but thats the fun, you slowly get into, It was well written enough for me to be able to imagine the whole kingdom and scenes in my head and i think thats good enough and easy to understand. *also i loved you guys' energy and excitement while talking about the scenes, i felt like i was sitting with you guys and reminiscing the book scenes.*

We looooove Elspeth and the Nighmare's bickering...ha! And boy does it get even better in Two Twisted Crowns. A tv show or anime series on these books and into this world would be *chef's kiss*, honestly. We're shocked people said that this story was hard to understand? Maybe a little boring or slow to begin, but certainly it wasn't much more difficult to understand than other books within this genre. Thank you for watching! We really enjoy reminiscing over these scenes with everyone.💜

One thing we always say with a potterhead friend is that JK Rowling made a huge mistake pairing the characters with their first real boyfriend/girlfriend because she didn't allow them to explore their feelings and their sexual desire. As you said, it would be ok if Hermione was with Ron just for a bit, but not marrying him and having children with them.
@DamselsAfterDark5 ай бұрын
Exactly! We needed more variation. These pairings were just lazy.

Almost done with Manacled and boy oh boy was that a whirlwind! Loved this series soooooooo much more than the HP saga. Granted, I was a “baby” when HP but I was SHOOKETH with Manacled. Can’t love this any more than I already do.

We totally agree!! Manacled IS cannon and we accept no arguments otherwise. 😄

I am not an overly emotional person so the deaths and gore didn't bother me a lot....as a harry potter fan I was always kinda liking Slytherins the most and always thought that JKR did them dirty. This book fed my hunger for a redemption of the members of this particular house...such amazing complex characters...Draco and Snape, even Lucius.....JKR could have done so much better, instead she painted them all as evil. Black and white. I am happy I read this book, it's a masterpiece.

Hey, you guys! I just found you from this episode on Spotify and was excited to learn you have your video format on here. I just finished Manacled last night and am desperate for any kind of discourse on the book because I have no one to talk to about it! This is my very first fanfic, and Draco/Hermoine romance at that, and I absolutely loved it! I have to say, though, that now that I have read this story as my first and want more, I am scared that I will be let down by others because so many reviews say that this one is the best. I also have seen TikTok's of people recommending certain palate cleanser fanfics afterwards, but I want to stay in the dark and heavy, haha. Also, I'm in my mid 30's and absolutely cannot do younger (cutesy, immature?) type of storylines, which is why I loved this book. It was devastating and mature. If you have any other recs similar I would love to know! I am very aware of ACOTAR, which is on my list, though I'm not even sure what they are about, just that people are obsessed, but any others that have the anti-hero, dark, romance, etc. Love a slow burn, too, my favourite! Thanks for the podcast episode; I think I'll go and watch some of your others, even though I jumped to the final full review.

Hello! So glad you found us on here! Manacled was our first fanfiction too and we also fell hard. Krystle has read some additional Dramoine fanfictions and strongly recommends checking out Love in the Time of a Zombie Apocalypse and Breath Mints and Battle Scars. The second one is "younger" since they are still in school but it is SO GOOD. We also enjoyed The Cruel Prince series, but that is more political fantasy with an enemies to lovers element thrown in as a side thing (think YA Game of Thrones). But we gave the series as a whole a 5 across the board. We started this podcast so we could find people to talk about books with too! If you want to join us, we have a reading schedule in our link tree (which will launch for season 2 in Feb)...or you can follow our insta for our monthly TBR announcements. You can also join us on Fable and discuss in real time with us (and our growing community) your thoughts on our current reads!

Also, ACOTAR is good, and we did enjoy it! Does not compare to Manacled though. Another series to check out too is The Plated Prisoner series which we will be covering this season too!

I just found a new dramione book that’s rlly good its called secrets and masks. It’s based off manacled, it’s rlly good although very toxic. Draco is surprisingly toxic and Hermione is annoying as usual

Ooooh, yes! That is on out list for sure.

It was implied that the death eaters that Draco experimented on to take out their dark marks were the accomplices to his mother’s torture that’s why he chose them. I believe that the reason why Hermione was making notes was to have a better grasp of if she was getting to Malfoy she is inexperienced in “romantic relationships” and this was her way to analyze her progress since she doesn’t have someone to talk it out with, she can’t go to Ginny and Luna and have the fun experience of trying to figure out all of her interactions with Draco since this was her first active flirting experience so notes make sense. Also spattergroitis is the disease that the Weasleys choose to use as Ron’s alibi in book 7 Arthur, Fred and George transfigured the ghoul that lived in the attic to look like Ron with spattergroitis to explain why Ron was not in Hogwarts at the beginning of year 7 and to prove that he was not with Harry Potter, it was cute that Ron’s alibi in the books is now used to hide Ginny’s pregnancy great call back from Senlinyu

Honestly when Hermione was attacked by the vampire and ghost dog and she didn’t register she almost died I’m pretty sure it was the adrenaline and focusing on healing herself and she might have used her Olccmuncy to block it all out. Once Draco pointed it out it probably hit her like a bull.
@DamselsAfterDark Жыл бұрын
You're so right! She was too focused on surviving to fully comprehend the fact that she did almost die (and even to comprehend how much she absolutely did NOT want to die).

This quote describes him so well “Inside every cynical person is a disappointed idealist” Draco is mad that the order failed him the Colin Creevey incident was a turning point of how he saw the order, they were supposed to be the good guys Dumbledore was supposed to be all knowing he shouldn’t have been able to kill him, the saddest part is that Draco had already done the worst things before Colin (Bellatrix was “teaching him” when the thing with kindergartener happened so it was before Colin) he had the hope of good triumphing over evil he was ok being killed in the process but they didn't have the guts to do what's needed also Moody and Kingsley were hoping that Draco would die while being punished for failing to prevent the curse division rescues Hermione was just clueless about it. P.S. the crying in the creek was so extra she only needed to put on mascara to take it that extra level
@DamselsAfterDark Жыл бұрын
Yes to all of the above! Draco's hope was crushed as he saw the Order continue to fail to do what was necessary and we completely agree with his anger here! Haaaa. the creek scene is so perfect!

Madam Poppy Pomfrey is the name of one character, Hogwarts' student called her Madam Pomfrey now that they have worked with her for years and are grown ups they call her Poppy 🙂Madam Rolanda Hooch was the Flying instructor at Hogwarts she taught Harry, Ron and Hermione she has grey spiky hair and yellow eyes in the movie, students called her Madam Hooch

Oh yeah! Completely forgot Madam Hooch was the flying instructor. Reminding us who each one of these characters are in relation to the HP series makes their deaths in Manacled even sadder.

Yay! I missed you no episode last week 🥲, the love potion thing was to show that she was falling for someone because the potion is supposed to smell like someone you are attracted to, before the war it was "Freshly mown grass, new parchment, and spearmint toothpaste" but in the memory it smells like " Oak moss, smoky undertones of cedar, the bruised scent of oxidizing leaves, and Papyrus" that's the smell of a person she knew during the war 😏

Ostara was the Godess of spring her holiday was on the spring equinox, it´s still celebrated in western countries it was rebranded by Christianity and now it's knows as Easter that's why Astoria had a garden party they were celebrating spring I believe it's cannon that one of the reasons why Voldemort can't feel love is because he was conceived while his father was SAed under the love potion's effects also it will explained Voldemort's interest in love potions, I found it tragic that him being a product of SA chose to create a whole generation of children products of SA 😢
@DamselsAfterDark Жыл бұрын
Wow, wow! Thank you so much for the additional information. Yes! Very noteworthy that he is a product of SA and then pushes to produce a whole generation of children who are also a product of SA. That also makes sense why he is interested in weaponizing the love potions later in the story.
