Your cell wiring is incorrect. You wired the cells in parallel correctly, but you took the positive and the negative from the left hand end. This means the cells on the right are on the end of the string, and there is more resistance between the inverter and the right hand cells than the inverter and the left hand cells ... The cells themselves are very low resistance, you'll be surprised how much more "work" the left hand cells are doing and the right hand ones barely getting used at all. The correct way to wire them is simply to take one of the connections to the inverter from the other end of the string. For example connect the positive to the left hand end of the string, the negative to the right hand end of the string, thus the resistance between the inverter and any single pack is equal, which equally shares the load througout the packs.

NICE! This will be one of the the first projects after purchasing a home. I'd have to limit the daily usage of my gaming entertainment system rigged to the home theatre system, which will have to be on separate breakers. HAHA.

Don't the Tesla packs use lion chemistry, and wouldn't LiFePo4 be much safer and durable in the long term?
@ZaiFuchigami
@ZaiFuchigami 3 ай бұрын
LiFePO4 can be safer, but when installed correctly and multiple safety systems are in place "regular" lithium ion chemistries can be as safe. Long term cycle durability is definitely better on lithium iron phosphate, but what I paid for the Tesla pack is a fraction of what I would've paid for a LiFePO4 pack. So even if it lasts a few years it'll still be cheaper to just get another pack and replace it over using LiFePO4 from the start.

Thanks :) The system has been working great running 24/7 for well over 3 years now. I did do a couple upgrades in that time which have improved the system all together. I added a Raspberry Pi 3 running Victron Venus OS monitoring all the Victron components in VRM with remote access capability. I then removed the old daisy chained loop cable connections to each module and got a custom solid busbar going across the entire stack with smaller angled busbars from each terminal. After that I added a much larger 100mm2 battery cable from the battery to the upper section and re did the distribution area. I removed the old Chinese MCBs and replaced them with Blue Sea Systems 187 series breakers and another custom solid busbar distribution system connected to each one. Then I added a second solar array with 6 445W shingled panels for an additional 2.6kWp of solar power, and another Victron SmartSolar 150/100Tr charge controller for the new array. I basically completely re built both the upper section and lower section since this video :)

How do you get such a low frame rate it's painfully to watch Also you connected the packs wrong, you need to cross connect the positive and negative wires. Although with these low currents it's not that big of a deal. I'm scared these will once get into thermal runaway and burn down your house. Man, buy lifepo4, they also last way longer and match better in voltage with your inverter

You have 2835W of solar for charging. How much power do they generate in a typical day?
@ZaiFuchigami
@ZaiFuchigami 4 ай бұрын
I added a second array and second charge controller after this so I have a bit over 5,500Wp of solar installed. I have some shading issues and a current bottleneck from using 24v which limits the total power I can harness. My current record is 22kWh of solar generation in one day.

Good question. The simple answer is that the load on the packs is a fraction of what it saw when driving the car motors or when Supercharging, which is when the packs heat up. The max power in or out of the pack in my system is only about 4kW, as opposed to the 400kW it’ll see in the car.

im wondering why not use the battery as it is. is there something wrong with the battery? it would seem to be much easier and very very much safer to just use the current external connections.

This is incredibly irresponsible. All it takes is an internal short within a cell and your house is gone. You could do everything perfectly and still experience a thermal runaway event. During a thermal event, the hot gasses of a cell will directly shoot into another module grid. You have zero thermal runaway protection For those watching on KZbin, please don’t replicate this. Leave this to professional engineers

Do not use a parallel connection on one side of the cells. Give the plus wire on one side and the minus wire on the opposite side. This helps to unevenly discharge and charge individual cells.

Wrong main lead connection! The + and - lead to the inverter should be connected diagonal to the first resp. last battery in the pack, so you have no voltage/SoC/performance difference between the batteries.

You're right, I did catch that issue and fixed it after the video went up. I actually re did the whole wiring setup a few weeks ago with a new single busbar and solid right angle bus bar strips connecting each battery replacing the old daisy changed cable link.

Why did you use mppt controller? Because victron 24V 3000 inverter does not have inside it? Or do you have another reason for that?
@ZaiFuchigami
@ZaiFuchigami 7 ай бұрын
The Victron MultiPlus doesn't have a built in MPPT charger. It's an inverter and AC charger combo unit. I also prefer having separate components for singular purposes for better redundancy.

This is a nice setup you got going on there. Would it be possible to use the battery pack in it's original state, aka without removing the modules, and do something similar to power a mobile home/trailer/caravan? Asking because I do live in a could country (-20C, -25C). So coolant for keeping it warm in winter and cold in summer would be nice.
