These work great for heat, we lose power a lot in the winters and a few of these burning in the living rm keeps it warm and give a great light too.

Two full sized oil lamps produce as much heat as one 1500 watt electric heater. With 6 lamps I can light and heat my whole 2000 sq ft house to comfortable in 20 degree temperatures outside. I stockpile 20 gallons of parafin oil as a one to two month supply for winter power outages.
@carltongadgettmannprice352 Жыл бұрын
I have two oil lamps similar to the one you used in the video and I also have one that I made from a wide body pickle jar. I use a 1 inch wick in it. There isn't a burner but rather a cut in the cap for the 1 inch wick to come through. To save money, I used a mixture of Cooking oil and Kerosene. I'm able to stay in a 17ft x 13ft room in comfort simply by using 3 oil lamps and 1 small alcohol paint can stove, using cotton balls as a wick. When temperatures are below 30 degrees, I simply bring out the small 9000 btu kerosene heater.

I've used a lamp like this in an emergency before and while it may not keeping you warm as summer, it's enough in a small well insulated room to keep you alive. A large kerosene heater might be better for some people, but it's not as clean burning and with little kids I can't exactly put a kerosene heater up on a shelf. If you never had one of these they actually do burn pretty hot, high temp, but not necessarily high volume/flow.

Hello, the eggs need to be very clean and only a day old, right? W/ all the brown spots what happens if I miss a dirty spot?
@thomaswhichard44812 жыл бұрын
Nice looking build, hopefully the bees will not chew the insulation. If the "bee space" between the top of the frames and the bottom of the cover boards is more than about 1/2" the girls will build comb in it. Just a heads up.

I glasses my chicken eggs this evening I used a 2 gallon bucket but only used one gallon of distilled water & 4 oz of pickling lime. For each quart of water is 1oz of lime
@GraphixGoddess2 жыл бұрын
I have heard from others that once you open the jar and "break" the little water glass seal, the eggs will begin to go bad, so you have to use the entire jar soon. I haven't experimented with that yet, but it's what I have been hearing.
@MrDruidjax2 жыл бұрын
that is a false statement... as long as the eggs remain under the water, they will keep

It can hold 30 without much problems, but I keep them at 20 or below. This particular one was housing 15 JMF Jumbos until I took 7 males out. The original, made with full size 2x4s and 3/4" plywood had 18 and I have 19 waiting to go into the next one I get finished.

I made the similar several years back and I found that the top edges were easily broke. I am thinking this time will use a torch to melt the cut surface to smooth it out and try to design a plastic "rim" over the edge to reinforce it.
