The comments in this video only shows the difference between accepting Steve Augeri giving him full support although his struggling. I don’t think Arnel received the same respect instead you’ll hear bashers throwing nasty things about his voice lately when there were times he struggled. It’s just sad, because he didn’t get the same support from Deen , I don’t know if it’s intentional or someone just doesn’t care.

SA is still actively performing, just saw one video taken in Epcot Center( 2019)as one of Epcot's Highlight Performances, it seemed that until now, he has not recovered after all those years., here's one of that videos below.. Hope he recovered soon so he could join in one of Journey's frontman visits on LIVE in one of Journey's 5oth Anniversary Tour.. See link below kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4rMiamYbZWFjK8

Years without rest singing in high tones, unfortunately this year he had pneumonia and along with the vocal wear he ended up screwing everything up, very sad because Augeri, although he didn't have such a high vocal range, he compensated by singing with a lot of class

It's great that Deen covered for him, and I LOVE Deen, but still, as great as Deen is as a singer, he's still not close to Steve Perry.

@@PeachWNK I disagree. Just check several videos where Deen is singing Journey stuff (VERY WELL I might add!) and gets a lot of compliments (including from me), but there are more than a few comments where someone says he was better than Steve. Everybody is allowed to have an opinion, I just respectfully disagree with that one. No big deal.
@PeachWNK3 жыл бұрын
@@chucknovy7694 In *this* conversation thread I mean. It has nothing to do with Steve A. I don’t understand why people always need to add the postscript when Deen does some great Journey vocals. Yeah. We know, but it’s irrelevant. Besides, it’s apples to oranges. Steve and Deen have a different tone when they sing. When people say Deen is better, what they might mean is they like Deen’s tone better. It’s subjective and it’s about what feels best to their ears. It’s not diminishing Perry’s greatness.

There’s a possibility that he caused a vocal cord hemorrhage which is a burst artery in the vocal cord from lack of rest. The only way to fix that is surgery

They said at the time that he had severe pneumonia, I don't know the truth but I saw videos of him singing in 2016 and he couldn't sustain middle notes without falsetto, unfortunately he never fully recovered his beautiful voice from the past.

PS: Sadly, I think we are seeing this happen to Ariel now too. Years of trying to sing that catalog in a key slightly above his confirm zone is taking its toll.

I saw Augeri on his first two tours woth Journey and he was amazing. Spot on. And a great fit. But then I saw him on this tour, his last. It was painful and I actually walked out of the show halfway through. He just got beat up trying to sing that catalog in a key that wasn’t ideal for him. Shame. He seemed like a good dude who truly appreciated the opportunity.

Interesting to note how much Augeri's vocal power has dropped over the years, compare shows from 1998 with those from after 2000

Journey wore Steve Perry down the same way, Too many shows too often and they never asked him how this greedy schedule was working for him, or talked about what he was going through… and ultimately this was wrecking his voice and his willingness to keep this amazing version of the band going.
@j_freed3 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry but that’s NOT the drummer helping, that’s a backing track of Steve Perry singing those long high notes. The last phrase where it’s high and it does a couple of different notes, that’s right off the album. That’s the original Steve. They are playing the audience to cover for the fact that they’re using a backing track

Everyone has their own opinion and to fill SP shoes was virtually IMPOSSIBLE, there in only ONE Steve Perry, clones are impossible. SA did a really good job. I saw Journey 3 times with SA before his voice went bad and loved every show, and so did the crowds. They were sold out or close to it and the fans looked like they were having a great time. Remember that one year Journey did that 3 hour 2 set show. First half was the old material pre-infinity and second half Infinity and beyond. I am sure those long shows didn't help SA's voice. I thought Neal did a credible job with both lead singer choices. I mean he replicated SP with SA with the voice, name, even the looks a little bit but he was totally different except the voice. SA was cool, laid back VERY humble unlike SP who was VERY confident and brash in his prime and at times looking back borderline selfish. Arnel was an awesome fit and carried them for years and I am sure they all made millions. They got in the HOF, renewed they're careers and now it's over. Neal already moved on to his new Journey. Neil will be playing until he's a 100 or he gets sick and dies. He is a freak and has to perform live, which is fine. I'm not knocking him, just stating the facts. It was a great post Steve Perry run.

I saw them just after SA joined in Massachusetts Great Woods. They were awesome! They did lots of new material including Good Time tonight, which never was on an album. Then I saw them when they were out with John Waite and was disappointed they didnt play more than 3 or 4 new songs while playing tons of SP/JRNY songs. I really wanted to hear more of the new songs and they could have medleyed the old stuff like they do today. Medleys would have made it so SA could jump to a different song before all the crazy high notes. Then to top it off, I expected John Waite to do a jam at the end with Journey doing Forget me not and when I see u smile from Bad English. But John Waite left town as soon as his set was over. What a missed opportunity! Other fans in the audience were pissed too. Popular misconception is that Fans just want to see the most popular songs live and very little straying from the format. But they obviously didnt pay attention to how successful Hagar was in reinventing Van Halen. He never lived in DLRs shadow. I think the promoters and executives dictated this and the band was not willing to go against that. That's why JTT is so popular. Because it's spontaneous, inventive, and it seems based on the communications Neal has with the fans on Social media.
