It was such a beautiful 130 year old building that some *!#@!*# accidentally (?) caught on fire. 2 salons, a wine bar, a comics/collectibles store and a clothing store burned down with it. If not for the expertise of the firefighters, emergency services personnel and all the other responders it could have been far, far worse. Priestly demolition is working hard to clear up the remains.

When a building has to be torn down like this after a fire who pays for the demolition
@ConnorEarlProductions3 күн бұрын
The following is from OrilliaMatters article, titled 'Owner vows to build 'something beautiful and meaningful' in wake of devastating downtown fire', written by Tyler Evans. ----------------- Pitcher is now faced with the financial burden of demolition, which is expected to cost between $400,000 and $500,000 - a cost not covered by his insurance. “The demolition company was contracted by the firefighters, so I had no choice in the matter,” he said, noting the expense will significantly impact the funds set aside for rebuilding.

It is interesting how these Historic Buildings "usually" burn down especially in prime commercial areas on coner lots.January 6? As in Insurrection ? Location, Location, Developers. ARSON? This was too common in Toronto during the early 2000's
@iwanta323 күн бұрын
Wow. Everywhere else the historic FACE of the building had to stay, and build what you qant behind it. Who owned this? The city should have protected it. The brick is WAY better than what we have to save elsewhere...

I know everyone is entitled to take rest and off the job. But I bet the surrounding businesses are anxious to reopen.😢
@ConnorEarlProductions3 күн бұрын
As for the surrounding business, some have had to close, like Meridian Bank, due to smoke and water damage, but I know other business who have been affected have talked about reopening. Dr. Comics, who lost everything has said they look forward to hoping to reopen and even have had people reach out to offer comics. Time will only tell.

Once this is all done and the demolition is fully complete, I will be compiling all my footage into one full length video and will post that. Will probably be a couple weeks before that is posted but stay tuned.

Huge admiration to the original construction workers! The brick work and timber use is amazing!!
@ConnorEarlProductions3 күн бұрын
The entire historic Downtown Orillia and its buildings are filled with beautiful brick work, timber work, designs, and a true image of how life was over the years. The trick is to look up as a lot of this work is at the top of the buildings and not ground level.

The area was deemed unsafe due to the building so they couldn't move anything in the are till the area got safe. The letter 'A' and 'S' have been saved but the letter 'T' was damaged.

Hey Mayor. You forgot to give credit to County of Simcoe Paramedics who would have provided medical monitoring, prehospital medical support; medically protecting all peoples involved with this event.
@SpiritOnEarthКүн бұрын
If you have never had to give credit to a large group of people who worked together on a task, I can assure you that it is easy to unintentionally miss giving credit where credit is due, and it certainly can be embarrassing, especially when it is a prepared statement. I would not be surprised that other groups and businesses were also not mentioned because Mayor McIsaac is not answering questions from a script, and he acknowledged his list was incomplete by referring to "so many other groups". We don't know if this was an arranged interview, or if Mayor McIssac was given the questions in advance. Just after Mayor McIssac was elected, I was with a group a restaurant, and one of the people in our group approached him and congratulated him. BUt my friend also asked the new mayor a question that was thoroughly answered. Mayor McIssac's answer flowed off his tongue without needing research and rehearsal, and that demonstrates the depth of his knowledge, and to me, his concern and care for our community. I would not be surprised that if Connor saw Mayor McIssac on the street and asked for an interview, our Mayor would step up to the plate unprepared. Connor's questions, sometimes hard to hear, focused on the fire department, not deaths or injuries. It was reported early in the media that there were no reported injuries. Mayor McIssac's answers focused more on the issues of displacement because he did not talk about the other issues related to infrastructure, such as ice on the roads from runoff, transit issues, and when local businesses can reopen. From the "About" section on his KZbin channel, I see that Connor started a television broadcasting and video production course at Canadore College in 2020, and that is not a journalism program. I tip my hat and say kudos to Connor for venturing into journalism, as this might be his first production. A seasoned journalist might have asked questions that would confirm there were no injuries, and that might have prompted and opened the door for Mayor McIssac to focus on the group you noted was missed. The bottom line is that Connor gave his best effort, and I am satisfied with, and appreciate his report. I am also satisfied with Mayor McIssac's responses.
