My understanding is not limited. I cannot exhaustively explain eight full economic theories; my video would last three hours. Plus, I explained the positive consequences of his policies in the other video, "Why Trump Could Be the Best President in History." This provides a 25-minute economic analysis of his policies. However, 25 minutes is insufficient for eight full economic theories. And the video is completely objective. I have time today, so against my better judgement, I'll give an objective counter argument to each of the 8 outlined points you made that sound okay on paper, but, in practice, typically only increase wealth inequality and benefit the rich disproportionately to the middle and lower class. 1. Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (2017) While the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) initially appeared to stimulate economic growth by slashing corporate tax rates from 35% to 21%, its benefits disproportionately favored large corporations and high income individuals. The promised trickle-down effect-where corporate savings were expected to translate into increased investment, job creation, and wage growth largely failed to materialize for the middle and lower classes. Instead, corporations directed much of their windfall toward stock buybacks, which primarily benefited shareholders rather than employees. Additionally, the TCJA added nearly $2 trillion to the national debt, putting future generations at risk of higher taxes or reduced public services to offset the shortfall. 2. Historic Job Market Although record-low unemployment rates before the pandemic were touted as a major success, even though Donald inherited a thriving economy from the Obama administration, meaning he only had to not mess up what was already going on whilst taking full credit for what was happening, they mask underlying issues. Wage stagnation persisted, meaning many jobs created were low-paying and lacked benefits, leaving workers vulnerable and requiring many to seek second jobs or or income streams. Furthermore, labor force participation rates remained relatively flat, indicating that many individuals had either given up looking for work or were employed part-time out of necessity. These factors suggest that the job market’s health was superficial, benefitting employers with access to cheap labor while offering little long-term security or upward mobility for workers. 3. Energy Independence Becoming the world’s largest oil and gas producer under Trump’s administration was a double-edged sword. While it reduced reliance on foreign energy, it came at a significant environmental cost. Deregulation in the energy sector prioritized short-term economic gains over sustainable practices, exacerbating climate change and environmental degradation. The focus on fossil fuels also hindered investment in renewable energy, leaving the U.S. less prepared for the inevitable global transition to cleaner energy sources. These policies primarily benefited large energy corporations, while rural communities faced health and environmental risks from increased drilling and fracking activities. Furthermore, pulling out of the PCA twice, making the United States appear less than committed to the global goal of carbon neutrality, is not a good look for the nation regarded by many to be the world's overall leader. I will stray away from objectivity here to clarify that I am of the opinion that trading the irreversible damage to the environment from fracking to air pollution to investment in non-renewable energy sources for short term gains will never ever, under any circumstance, be a valid means by which to operate an economy. 4. Trade Policies Trump’s trade policies, including the renegotiation of NAFTA into the USMCA and the trade war with China, aimed to address trade imbalances but often created new challenges. Tariffs on Chinese goods led to higher costs for American consumers and businesses, particularly small and medium sized businesses that struggled to absorb increased input prices. Farmers were hit hard by retaliatory tariffs, necessitating government bailouts that further strained federal resources while adding to our national debt. While these policies aimed to protect American jobs, the overall disruption to supply chains and increased costs undermined their effectiveness, with the benefits, as expected, primarily going to large corporations that could navigate the complexities and expenses of global trade. Tariffs often lead to increased costs for raw materials and finished goods, which are passed on to businesses, which then have to raise prices, which again, passes the burden on to consumers. This makes American products less competitive globally and hurts export-driven industries. Furthermore, the complexity of global supply chains means that tariffs can inadvertently harm U.S. companies reliant on imported components. If that doesn't sound like a big deal, look up how much raw material is imported into the United States that can't reasonably be replaced by domestic production, either due to lack of access or expense of production being unsustainable. Large corporations can absorb these costs or relocate operations, but small businesses and consumers bear the brunt of the impact. 5. Middle-Class Tax Relief Proposed deeper tax cuts for the middle class may appear beneficial but risk exacerbating income inequality. The previous tax cuts under the TCJA primarily favored higher income households, and further reductions would likely follow a similar pattern. Additionally, without corresponding cuts to federal spending, such tax relief only deepens the national deficit, potentially jeopardizing funding for essential programs like Social Security, Medicare, and education that he's already been very vocal about being willing to abandon. The middle class may face long term economic insecurity as a result. In just the first few days of his second administration, he has shown his commitment to this by retracting Biden's executive order regarding Medicaid pricing protections. If tax rates go down, that money has to be accounted for somehow, and there are only two ways to account for it; raise profits or cut expenses. Lose-Lose. 6. Manufacturing Resurgence The idea of universal tariffs to protect domestic industries and revive manufacturing might seem appealing, but if you think at all about it, the risks and significant unintended consequences outweigh the potential gains, even in a best case scenario to the point where this idea isn't even worth considering. Decades ago, the united states intentionally traded away domestic manufacturing jobs with the intent on becoming a global leader in more white collar jobs, which has partially come to fruition, but, the whole H1B visa argument between president Musk and Vice president Trump explain better than I ever could why we have so many highly educated recent college graduates with degrees in computer science, programming, and other once in-demand fields going months if not years without being able to find a single job in their field despite applying to hundreds if not thousands of positions. Tech jobs are being hugely undercut by foreigners on work visas that will work double the hours for half the price of an American with the same qualifications. It makes no sense for us to try to turn back time and bring back manufacturing when we could incentivize companies to employ qualified Americans rather than cheap imported labor. For proof, look up Elon's pay structure for domestic vs international workers. 7. Freedom Cities Initiative Trump’s vision for innovation hubs, or "Freedom Cities," may sound transformative but lacks a clear roadmap for equitable implementation. Without proper safeguards, such initiatives risk becoming enclaves for the wealthy and well-connected, further marginalizing low income communities. The focus on cutting edge technologies could also exacerbate job displacement in traditional industries, leaving many workers behind. Additionally, the funding and governance of these cities raise questions about accountability and whether public resources will primarily benefit private developers and corporations. 8. Energy Boom 2.0 Doubling down on domestic energy production as part of an "Energy Boom 2.0" risks repeating past mistakes. Expanding fossil fuel extraction ignores the urgent need to transition to renewable energy to combat climate change. While rural economies may experience short term gains, they remain vulnerable to the boom-and-bust cycles inherent in the energy sector. Moreover, the environmental degradation associated with increased drilling disproportionately affects rural and indigenous communities, while large energy corporations reap the profits. This approach delays critical investments in sustainable infrastructure, ultimately leaving the U.S. at a disadvantage in the global energy transition. Also, to reiterate, refer to my earlier subjective injection of my opinion on trading the environment for profits from point 3.
@Jay71k5 күн бұрын
TLDR While Trump’s policies and plans may appear ambitious and promising on paper, their long-term consequences reveal significant flaws. The focus on benefiting large corporations and short term economic gains often comes at the expense of the middle and lower classes, as well as the environment. By prioritizing corporate profits over equitable growth and sustainability, these policies risk widening income inequality, undermining public services, and leaving the majority of Americans worse off. In nearly every move made by his administration during the first term, consumer prices went up, business expenses went up, and the ones collecting the checks were those who were already extremely well off, contributing to the biggest transfer of wealth from the masses to the top 1% in the history of the world, which is still ongoing, and which half the country was (in my opinion) conned into voting for. I cannot imagine that, if given proper and objective looks at the proposals made by Donald Trump, as well as the results of his first term in context, that anyone would vote objectively against their own self interest. The only exceptions I can think of would be those making more than $360,000 a year that value a tax cut for themselves over the well being of the whole, single issue voters that lean to the right of the political spectrum, and, of course, the huge group of more and more openly racist, xenophobic, or otherwise morally questionable individuals that cast their vote for Don out of alignment of ideals. This also doesn't cover at all just how objectively terrible he is as a person. He's a convicted felon, been found liable of rape, sued twice by the justice department for not renting to people of color, openly rejects science, intellectually dishonest enough to pin all the nations problems on the same immigrants that keep our economy going, campaigned on 'draining the swamp' and then lied to his supporters by putting 13 wildly underqualified billionaires in his cabinet along with nominations for wildly underqualified loyalists to top positions within the nations government. That doesn't even begin to scratch the surface. He's dividing the citizens against themselves to keep himself out of prison and give his buddies with big businesses a tax cut. He simply isn't qualified to hold the office, but the people have spoken. A lot was covered here, if I got something wrong, missed something important, you want a source for something, or in general if anyone has a question, ask away and I'll be happy to address. Feel free to use any of the information provided in the follow up video as well.
