Look at talent on the pitch that day. Great game from two excellent teams. Happy days at Fir Park.

One of the best Motherwell teams I can remember. Inherited by McLeish and single handedly dismantled by McLeish 😠

This for me was by far THE biggest disappointment as a 'Well fan! Rennie was pathetic!

I have never seen a football pitch in a worse state although fair play to Motherwell by the way I am a Celtic fan.

I was just 16. Next to the fence. The sway was mental.

OMG! Been searching for this game for almost 50 years. I was in the main stand with my uncle directly under the tv gantry where Archie was commentating. To this day I remember the crowd as 26,709. St Mirren brought about 15,000 that day. Thank you to whoever uploaded this. If you have footage of the whole game sir then I would love to buy a copy from you please! RSVP.

@@johnnyboy-f6v Rennie wasnt a good keeper . The year before losing to Rangers ( at least I think it was the year before ) we lost the semi final replay at Hampden to Airdrie after Rennie got penalised for taking too many steps with the ball in hand . That was a sickener as well . We really thought we were destined to win the Cup the year we lost to Rangers after a fantastic run .Firstly we beat Celtic 3-2 at Fir Park after being down 2-0 . We then beat Cowdenbeath 2-0 at Central Park ,then Hibs 2-1 at Ibrox in Quarters after draws at Fir Park and Easter Road .I was at every one of those games and as a mere 14 year old was convinced we would win it . Great memories though .😀

Apart from the fact that it was a draw, this was one of the best games I ever saw at Fir Park. Awful weather meant most fans were crammed into the East Terrace, so the atmosphere was superb. Both teams went for it big time, and frankly, Motherwell were mesmeric at times. Some great players. O'Neill marauding in the middle, while Cooper finessed the ball around. Arnott was constant up front, and Nijholt was a great defender. Hearts had been a bogey team for us for a while, but, despite the draw, this game showed we had become the better team. This video will barely ever get viewed, but it showcases the game of that era so well. Incidentally, Rangers fans laud Cooper as a winger, but how good was he in the middle? Thanks for the upload.

One of those strange McLean years when our team was a mixture of future cup legends and absolute donkeys.
