The author of Frieren, Kanehito Yamada, has proven that she's brilliant which is why I can't understand why she would make a character like Wirbel. The guy is a mercenary that literally UNALIVED younglings for money. But now we're supposed to accept him as a wacky goofball??? That would be like if in Star Wars Aniken suddenly became a comic relief character after what he did to the younglings and Obi Wan just let it slide and forgave him. Wirbel literally borks the entire moral framework that Yamada has created so far to the point that I don't know what's considered good and what's considered evil in this universe. If what Wirbel did isn't considered unforgivably evil, then what possibly could be??? 😑😑

Both Frieren and Fern were skilled enough to spare their opponents by using a final attack just barely strong enough to force them to use the last of their mana to defend against it. Also, interesting how Denken's pride woudln't let him send Laufen to defeat the two mages and instead restorted to a fist fight. She still had pretty much all of her mana so letting her handle it would have been the easy way to take their bird. 🤔🤔

Wirbel didn't save those kids, he UNALIVED them. This is why he's a problematic character that I don't like. The author really expects us to forgive him for that just because he feels bad for it and has a few cute scenes with his teammates??? Compare this to something like Blood Meridian where all of the main characters commit countless atrocities but that's the point, they're all bad people and the author doesn't try to sugarcoat it. Also, Wirbel is a mercenary, so he did it for money, not to defend his country or whatever. There is NO justification for what he did, but apparently, we as the audience are supposed to overlook that, which I can't accept. 😒😒

Gotta say, this arc is my least favorite of Season 1 because of the "style over substance" approach it takes. I don't hate it, but it does get a little too close to Shonen for my liking with the writing taking a back seat to the action.

It is a slow burn in the manga and anime but time wise in their lives it won't be that long... so I think it's pretty realistic.

The age gap issue is a common thing in medieval time which this anime's setting is so it's normal by their standards. And the age jokes are just there for comedy (dark humour) but the two of them are really wholesome. Ive been waiting for this anime for months ever since i saw the first trailer. Let's just all turn our brains off and enjoy this anime for what it is instead of bringing irl views into it
