As much as I think he's brilliant, this one time he fucked up. As an environmental activist myself, believe me, I've got nothing to gain from doing what I do. I do it because I know someone has to act to repair the bad we did. It's not about saving the planet, it's just putting things back on their natural course and removing humans' print from as many natural environments as we could. It's not arrogance, it's apologizing to nature.

I've long said that it's extremely arrogant of us to think we can have a significant impact on this planet. Only about 15% of the land is occupied, water makes up 2/3 of the earth's mass, so 15% of 1/3 is all we occupy.... we aren't that important folks!

On this particular issue, George Carlin was NOT ahead of his time. He could not be more wrong. Yes, 90% of species have gone extinct, but you are talking about over the course of millions of years. That extinction rate has accelerated tremendously, due to human activities and toxins. You say that we should leave nature alone, and just let them die? Fine, but then you ALSO must leave nature alone by no longer polluting the world with toxins, and no longer destroying habitats. You can't just say that we should leave nature alone when it comes to saving animals, but NOT leave nature alone when it comes to toxins and destroying habitats. It actually is a good idea to protect and save species when humans are the ones responsible for them being threatened. You should only let those species go extinct when human activities have nothing to do with it. When people say "save the planet," you already know that they aren't talking about non-living materials. They are talking about the ecosystem of life, which is all interconnected. Saving the ecosystem is not hard to do. You just stop polluting the ecosystem with toxins, and switch to clean energies, which we have had for a long time now. If we invested the same amount into that as we do into oil rigs and refineries, we could easily shift over to it, and pretty quickly, for about the same cost -- or less. Saving the bees and whales is the same as saving ourselves. It is all interconnected. We breathe the same air and drink the same water. Some of us actually have learned to care for each other, even if much of the planet hasn't, and certain political groups. People will wake up more as we talk about this and recognize how easy it will be to clean up the world.

You are right. But only about 10% of the people are F/kd. We could live in harmony with the planet without jeopardising a good comfortable living and environment. The ancient ancestors did without plastic, nylon, chemicals. Hemp can save growth forests, tyres used for building but banning all plastics would wipe 70% of billionaires. A lot of the electric industry but not the clean ones. Same as there’s something natural that beats most pharmaceutical products. New technology, products, resources are always the main ingredients for war. If you cut the need for many things by using great inventions that never went ahead because you couldn’t meter or bill it like hydrogen cars instead of electric. Electric rapes the earth of fossil fuels, cobalt, lithium, precious metals etc. water powered vehicles with no pollution and no cost to fill

"If plastic isn’t biodegradable, the Earth will simply develop a new paradigm." When plants first developed lignin, the main component of wood, it wasn’t biodegradable either. The Earth was covered in wood that didn’t decay-until some bacteria evolved to break it down. This is why coal is found mostly at the same geological level everywhere. It formed from fallen trees that remained intact for thousands of years.
