Straight pipes on some vehicles sound like trash. To me that Ford Ranger sounds like it has a broken exhaust near the manifold. It's just obnoxious.

What if… If each exhaust port split into two separate runners for a total of 8 runners? Then you have 4 equal length runners, 2 shorter, and two longer runners. Would that achieve close to cross plane v8 sound?

Damn, i beat everyone to it but never made a video lol. I did this on my honda accord over a year ago and shortly after someone made a video where they did it on like a nissan sentra or some shit. Mine was the 1-3 2-4 pairing And it sounded exactly the same as your trucks

Now I wanna see someone put a cross plane crank on a car four banger. R1s sound pretty awesome so why not?

So, if you pair 1&3 and 2&4 , and then make the primarys unequal length, you will come very close to a crossplane sound (but at the expense of power---but who cares) 😊 A crossplane 4cyl would have a 1-4-3-2 firing order (with firing events at 90 and 270deg) which is a big part of the choppy sound, not the exhaust piping. A flatplane 4cyl has even firing events at 180deg. Thats why a Harley has that unique sound, a Japanese cruiser V twin is even-fire so doesn't have the potato-potato idle a harley does.

What size exhaust pipe on the ranger ?

I was actually curious about dual exhausting my Honda RIdgeline RTL. It is dual until it goes to the third catalytic then it singles down to 1 pipe. Anyone ever try to dual exhaust the V6 before? If so, How does it sound with say like a Flowmaster 60 or 40 series. I would suggest a delta 40 but I am running dual exhaust on my v8 Genesis without the X pipe of resonators. With the Dellta's of course. It's too bassy with them
