Thomas in fantastic form 1n1977 and still at age 79. His unique voice, full of resonance and beauty is instantly recognisable. One of the greatest singers of all time so far. Along with others like John Shirley Quirke we will celebrate you forever

What is the piece he's singing at the beginning?? During the title scene?
@cosifantutte907 ай бұрын
It's Ford's aria "È sogno? O realtà?" from Verdi's Falstaff. Sir Tom has sung Ford a couple of times during his career.

This is devastating. Seen this exquisite performance on many occasions and am devastated every time. Bless this great singer, and many congratulations to him on his fine career 🎶

"Devastating" is right. I can't think of any other operatic - or other - musical number that grabs me like this does: Right by the guts. Yes, there are other operatic About-To-Die numbers, but they're somehow glamorised and glossy....... Whereas this is raw pathos, in the proper sense of the word. Superb composition, superbly performed!
@elainehallows51609 ай бұрын
@@mehitabel1290 Well said. Billy is so honest and humble, and this aria is honest, humble and raw. He shows no anger towards his fate or the those who are taking his life. Real tragedy.

Sir Thomas has played this role many times. I was intrigued to hear him ask for a physical description of the Countess and then from the description call her "substantial". Still, he's a gorgeous man with a commanding voice.

Wait, if Black's voice was fine until an hour ago. how did T Allen make the 11 hr flight from L.A. in time?
@cosifantutte902 жыл бұрын
He didn't fly in from LA specifically to save the show, it was a coincidence that they called him up to see if he could sing Almaviva and he had arrived in London not long ago.
