Underrated story. The end of Kamelion, the exit of Turlough, and it should have been the last we saw from the Master as well.

Hey guys, excellent discussion on Nyssa! I just discovered your channel and am working my way through some of your Doctor Who Podcasts. One note on your favorite Nyssa serials, she was in neither of The Five Doctors nor Frontios. She left before those serials in Terminus though when you guys were discussing Frontios it sounded like you were discussing the plot of Terminus.

Thanks for the comment and welcome to the channel. And you may be right about Frontios; we were drunk. :)

I recently listened to Meanwhile Turlough, at one point Five tells Turlough his reasons to keep him as a companion. And that had me thinking about what the Doctor said. Tldr: Turlough reminds him of himself in a way. The thing is that even if it was just a coincidence it is there. Self-serving character, that believes they are superior to those around them, that would kill someone if it meant to escape from a situation, that are confronted with how awful they are and get to develop and change for the better thanks to the good influence of someone new in their lives, which results in their character to change for the better, plus both characters are at odds with their people and are separated from them, both of them have an arc in which they have to choose the well being of others over their own well being and need to contact their people to save others even if it could very costly for them. Basically Turlough is a speed run of the Doctor' character arc from One to the end of Two.

I like Turlough a lot. He is my favorite classic companion. I like him in both the series and Big Finish.

Cool beans for replying and thanks. Turlough is a bit of an odd fish, but he is a very interesting companion. :)

@@guimbelleaux that's awesome amigos! I'm tryin to get videos rollin myself for awhile, so respect to yall on crushing it on consistency. But if I'd give some advice, I think yall wud do better with more editing, maybe even graphics. Learning is time consuming and editing even more, but I think maybe close ups of either of you wen yall are making ur points, or inserts of visuals of what ur talking about. I'm not criticizing. As I'm sure hard-core Whovians wud get the references, but as a newbie or just someone who was interested in the topic randomly, it'd help invite more to be interested, if there's more stimulation beside the convo. But I like I said I respect the hussle and ur format cud just be from creative or personal reasons. Just givin two cents. And we all know pennies can be thrown away lol 😆 Anywho (pun intended 😝), stay cool yall. I got helleva lot of eps to catch up on👍 good luck and keep on keeping on💪💪😁

It turns out that the guy I was thinking of was the same guy. :) Bill Nighy was Dr. Black in the Doctor Who episode "Vincent and The Doctor" and he was Davy Jones in The Pirates of The Caribbean movies. :)

I was wrong about Season 4, it still needs two serials to be animated or found, The Highlanders and The Smugglers.

Yeah, this one was particularly bad. Due to the pandemic, this was only our 5th serial in a six month period and we were out of practice. Also, the serial is 10 episodes long, so we had been drinking for five hours before the podcast. And, unlike The Dalek's Masterplan, the only longer serial in Doctor Who's history, because we were out of practice, we did not pace ourselves well at all. The good news is that we won't have a serial that long ever again and we are now getting back into practice and pacing much better.

Yes, the standard fan convention is that a character has to have travelled in the Tardis to be considered a ‘companion’, but that may be a little inflexible. Granted, Jackson (and Rosita) and Christina more so, fill the equivalent role... Got to pick you up on Kate Stewart (not Kate Lethbridge!). She wasn’t in Planet of the Dead. She didn’t appear until Matt Smith’s story The Power of Three, much later. Are you thinking of UNIT’s Captain Magambo (Noma Dumezweni) who was also in Turn Left. The ‘cool’ scientist was Prof Malcolm Taylor, played with typically manic energy by physical comedian Lee Evans. I suppose technically you could count the young Kazran Sardick and his fated love Abigail in Moffatt’s Christmas Carol as companions: though we don’t actually see them travelling in the Tardis we know they did.
@guimbelleaux5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the information. I am incredibly bad with names (that I why I keep the prodigious notes). As a point about traveling in the Tardis, Elizabeth Shaw never traveled in the Tardis (since it was grounded during that season), but she definitely was a Companion. :) Also, you are completely right about Planet of the Dead, I was mis-remembering; it was Captain Magambo and not Kate Stewart. As I get older (and drink) my mind plays tricks on me. Anyways, thanks for watching and, please, keep me accurate. :)

@guimbelleaux6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I had the camera plugged into the electrical socket on the first video. I have not done that since because I think that it is the reason for the buzzing. The battery lasts up to three hours and I probably will not need to make a video longer than that. We are looking at ways of cleaning up the audio with some sound cleaning software for the earlier video. Thanks for the compliment, by the way. :)

This is our very first Drunk Doctor Who Video: "An Unearthly Child". While we don't cover as many topics as I would have liked because we drank way too much vodka, we will try to cover more of them in our next video: "The Daleks". However, this video does encapsulate the incredibly organic nature of the discussion for which I was hoping. The videos will all vary in length based on how long we talk, be it five minutes or five hours. We will do no editing whatsoever so that everything is as it appears with no do-overs or attempts to make it perfect. We are just a couple of guys being ourselves and naturally, not scripted and not with an agenda, drinking, watching Doctor Who and talking about it free form while drunk. If you have any questions or any comments, feel free to comment below. Enjoy.

O.k... this is me explaining off of the top of my head (with a few notes later on), the entire History of Doctor Who. If you have any further questions or comments, please add them below. This is sort of a prelude or intro to Drunk Doctor Who which you can watch episodes of on this channel.
