Kind of poetic actually…Luo and Liu have been competing against each other since juniors and were the top new seniors in 2016. Liu would have made the 2016 and 2021 games if not for injury, and now Luo has made the Paris games after coming back from several injuries to become the oldest Chinese female gymnast at the Olympics. In beam or bars but not AA title, vault nor floor for sure. So simone biles still win, 3 versus 2. 😅

But why does the Selection committee keep choosing such weak vault and floor teams? I mean, vault is the ONLY apparatus on which one can score a 9+ execution, why wont they try to include someone in the team that can do a decent DTY?

@@aliciamcdonald7105​​⁠​​⁠​⁠the very sad truth is China now only have three 5.0+ vault in their leading candidates，zhang qingying with a very bad quality rudi，zhang yihan with a dtt and du siyu with a dty. The problem of du siyu is her ub is easy to fail，once she fail she will lost more points than what her dty devotes. Therefore，both du siyu（vault） and zhang qingying（beam） can only devote one item， which will bring a lot of pressure to the teammates. Luo huan has 6+ beam and 6+ ub and a good quality fty， and she has great consistency， this is probably why she can make the team. China has not been in the top three for six years， this is unreasonable for them，not just because of their weak vault in the past period，but also they always lose consistency in the tf. I think it would be a wise choice for them to choose luo huan.

@@agungs8564 Seems that although they send a team every time, they are only really looking to get individual medals. That is sad for me because I think whenever they have lost out on team podium it is mainly because of poor floor and vault in particular scores. They and many people seem to think that Artistic Gymnastics is only a two apparatus sport beam and floor (for those who cry about artistry) or bars and beam.
