She and others had to be so strong and brave back in those days contending with such ignorance not just on this programme but to just be out in public dressed. No hate crime laws in those days, if you were verbally abused or beaten up then went to the police it would get you nowhere. We've come a long way but there is still some way to go in the general acceptance of the LGBTQ community.
