I have the Nomad , it's nothing like you describe it . I stay over 40 min at 6m depth before low battery pulses starts. The unit knows how deep you are and adjust the rate on compresor accordingly. The low battery signal gives you more than 5 minutes to react. I don't know how tippy is the unit on water, I do know that It didn't ingest any water. I'm not saying Airbuddy it's worst or better, but you're review doesn't match the reality. Ps . Nomad could be transported on plane without any worries. No need to operate on the battery to disconnect them. Nomad can ingest salt water and still go without problems ( not tested myself yet ) I do admit that Airbuddy let you dive deeper and have higher autonomy , being able to share the unit with a friend given the half depth capacity it's a great addition. But if you want to travel and weight it's a thing along with size, Nomad would be more suitable.

The deeper you dive with Nomad, the shorter the battery life becomes as the pump needs to work harder. I only get close to 40 minutes when diving shallow and with relaxed breathing. Near the maximum rated depth and normal swimming pace, I get around 30 minutes or less. Nomad doesn't measure your depth and adjust the compressor rate. There is a simple magnetic switch inside the mouthpiece and wires that run inside the hose back to the compressor. It switches the pump on when you breathe in and off when you breathe out. I wouldn't try to run salt water through Nomad. You can find pictures and videos of people with damaged compressor on the Blu3 Nemo Divers Facebook page.

@trekvista it adjust the rpm in relation with how you breathe. I know it's an magnetic on of switch. But the pressure in the tube is directly related to depth, the deeper you dive, the higher the rpm are, to compensate for the volume, I witness this with my own ears while breathing. I think it's also stated in the manual. Indeed it was a problem with the pump wall or something, at the very beginning I think it was a recall. I bought my unit after the recall program, it's already an updated version. Regarding the magnetic switch, Just turn the knob all the way, it also adjust the amount of air, most likely it's some mechanical adjustment of how easy the membrane activates the magnet switch. I recon Airbuddy it's a great unit although I didn't dive with one. This review it's not that objective as it should.

@@andreimarius9695 there are other issues related to corroded and cracked motor core, broken pump diaphragm, failed valves, cut hoses, etc. As with any other machine, the better you look after it, the longer it lasts. I certainly wouldn't run water through Nomad after seeing the Facebook pictures.

Love the Airbuddy design- but continuous compressor run wastes battery. Airbuddy insisted it didn't but here's the issue- compressor isn't variable- so it's designed to supply a person for a given state. Go above- air is insufficient, go below- excess air is wasted. A system that turns the compressor on and off is matching it's energy consumption to actual use, avoiding this battery waste. Now- airbuddy said continuous run was a safety concern- but I can't imagine what would make sense on that. At the price point they gave- I opted for a competitor with a 5hr run time.

Switching compressor on and off doesn’t really save the battery, but should rather be seen as a missed opportunity to compress air ready for your next breath.
@trekvista
@trekvista 2 ай бұрын
Nonsense. AirBuddy does not waste much battery. It recharges the air tank as you exhale. On the contrary, Nomad wastes time by doing nothing and then struggles to deliver enough air at greater depths.

I guess you didn't see the run times of each. AirBuddy smoked the Nomad by almost twice the run time so your thought process needs to be re-evaluated.

should have had them on a soft towel vs a hard surface as its not an accurate test of noise. I have seen MANY reviews that show the airbuddy while advertising it supports two divers actually cant in practicality. Experienced certified divers diving together spoke of getting panicked because their air was being stolen.
@DivingEasier
@DivingEasier 6 ай бұрын
Diving depth is very individual in hookah diving as it depends on the diver's breathing rate. Experienced divers typically consume somewhere between 12-18 l/min of air when diving in normal conditions (relaxed dive). But in extreme cases divers can breathe up to 80-90 l/min (for example in panic or fighting with massive current). The depth rating of AirBuddy is calculated at 24 l/min breathing rate. Correct breathing is relaxed, taking in slow and deep breaths. As they teach in OW, "4 seconds to breathe in and 4 seconds to breathe out". In such scenario, you can even achieve greater depths than rated, such as in this video both divers diving at 38 feet and breathing out of one AirBuddy: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4SzmYeZqK1qaNk, i.e. almost twice the rated depth. However, this video was just for testing purposes by our team and we do not support or endorse exceeding the AirBuddy rated depths.

I agree, is very biased. 1. The great review comments, are obvious fakes. 2. Sound vibration, one is on hard wood planks the other on tube coil... too funny 3. The nomad has an air tube element for water srability but it's not used in this comparison I could go on but I'm sure you get the logic.

@@PaulPandelidis Both systems were placed equally on the wooden desk. It would have been a more accurate test to place them on a towel or in water, as someone suggested. Nevertheless, external noise is not a major issue. The noise and pulsation coming from the Nomad's mouthpiece is a much bigger annoyance.

Why do you need a safety stop at 7 meter dive? I think that you dont need them up to 10 meters dive... And one more question most of the rewievs suggest that Nomad is easier to breath than Air buddy? i think that this conclusions are ok for you but its up to individuals ..For some users Nomad is better and for some the Air buddy is better... But i respect your video and your comparison...Godd work But you are nailed that Air buddy is safer ...

I live in Russia, on the coast of the Sea of Japan, and I made a similar one with my own hands for diving in ocean conditions. the system , but only with a gasoline engine. the result exceeded all expectations , at minimum engine speed, the compressor calmly provides air to two divers at a depth of 10 meters , I did not experience any deeper, one diver dived 17 meters, the amount of air was absolutely enough to breathe without difficulty , it is likely that the device I made will provide diving to a much greater depth than the trial 17 meters.

Thanks very much for the effort you put into this excellent video. I have one arriving today at my UK home (from Australia, as you’ll know). Excited! Did wonder if i’d chosen wrongly after seeing another comparison video of same types but had already concluded the better airflow and safety tank won the day. The other video was done by an active user who preferred nomad overall for his type of diving, so it was quite persuasive. Really appreciate your points. I had forgotten the taxes and at UK Pounds £330 they did hurt a bit (but i’d pay them on any system and they wouldt have deterred me). Seychelles here i come with inflatable Kayak and Airbuddy! Thank you Emirates for two times 23kg luggage allowance in economy on this route!😅

Nice comparison of the two systems. I've had my AirBuddy for a few years and travel with it. I was wondering how the 'air on demand' performed. I had heard AB has a constant running compressor to increase battery time, cycling the motor on and off uses more power over time than the steady running. The coiled hose they use is much easier to deal with too, just run a strap through it and it's easy to carry. Customer service is exceptional, all companies should be this good.
@trekvista
@trekvista 10 ай бұрын
The "smart" regulator is a terrible idea in my opinion. Not just because of the loud and buffeting air from the compressor, lack of air reserve, fragile hose with wires inside, ... BUT also because the regulator freeflows each time you remove it from your mouth and after 20 seconds the compressor shuts off to protect from potential overheating, leaving you without air. You then need to reset the device (turn off and on again). It can be a pretty stressful situation if that happens at depth and you suddenly can't get any air not knowing what happened. It's briefly mentioned in the user manual, but you have to remember that and react correctly to fix the problem underwater.
