The current kit comes with 4 pocket washers 4 lock washers and 17mm bolts. The pocket washers do not have enough clearance for a 17mm socket to fit around the bolt head and fully tighten the bolt. If bolts had a 15mm head they would work fine. I had to add a flat washer and delete the pocket washers to be able to tighten the bolts at front. The rear came with a spacer plate for transfer case skid and spacer for hole in gearbox skid but the pocket washer won’t seat when using spacer so I substituted a large flat washer and did not use pocket washer. I was able to use one of the pocket washers by putting an additional thick flat washer on the bolt.

I contacted them with the same complaint and they told me no one else had complained about this. Also, why the hell did they run the video at 2X, makes it impossible to keep up with.

Simple to mount. The ones I got did not have the ASFIR logo cutouts in the bottom. Which is fine. Wish they did have a drain hole but they are narrow and don’t catch a lot of stuff

Why everyone does a permanent winch install? I'm looking for a removable winch mount. Similar to a rear hitch mounted winch but for front.

For Ford Bronco this is tricky cause of all the components it has on the Front Bumper. for other vehicles we do have hidden winch mounts. Make sure to follow us and stay tuned for future updates and releases :)

That logo in the middle of the slide area is a real "interesting" design choice, as it accomplishes nothing other than providing a catch point for rocks. It would have been far better to leave it solid, would have lowered the fab costs too.

Good point but they are mostly designed to ensure easy removal of pebbles, dirt, or water that may get caught between the skid and the vehicle while offroading. There some plates where we don't put logo at all, when it's not benefit. But thank you for the feedback! ASFIR always strives to learn and improve, so this is very appreciated :)

Was a bit tricker than expected. Had to loosen the OEM transfer case skid bolts to get everything to fit and thread on. But I totally understand why this brace is needed! Great quality. This video was a big help. Stupid me didn’t realize the OEM upper bolt is welded on and didn’t need to be removed.

What protects the bolts on a "skid" plate? Seems like them protruding is just asking to have an issue

This video is a bit outdated. We usually provide pocket washers where there's a risk of bolt shear.

I am getting a 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness, comes with an aluminum skid plate from factory but I want a stronger one. Is this skid plate steel or also aluminum? What material should I need to get adequate protection for off roading?

Our skid plates have service and ventilation holes, as it especially developed for off-roading, so it won't stop anyone from drilling a hole in your gas tank.

Yes, it does go over the stock skid to achieve much more protection and coverage for this valuable component (Transfer Case), and also it has inclines on the sides which help slide over obstacles such as rocks.

Not exactly the same, but pretty much similar....When achieving the package you'll be supplied with a detailed bill of materials drawing and a sketch to help as a mounting guide.

One feature that would be nice to have on the 4Runner, FJ version is an access plate to get to the oil filter housing like there is for the oil drain pan bolt. So you don't have to drop the whole skid plate when you do an oil change. Just a suggestion. Great products!
