Hi, I'm a geologist and I saw about stereonet in 2004 at university, and I haven't seen it since. And now I needed to do some mapping for a project that involved structural geology and I needed to use stereonet, and while looking for explanatory videos I found yours. Your videos are great, very well explained. I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge, thank you very much!

Most of these materials, including the plastic hemisphere, can be found at a good craft/hobby store, like Hobby Lobby.

First of all thank you for teaching us. A fault/bedding intersection line of 170/38 is observed on a bedding plane oriented at 060/40E. The same fault forms an intersection line of 020/30 on a vertical joint surface that trends 020. (a) What is the dip notation of the fault? Give your sketch on a tracing paper and describe your drawing procedures. (b) What is the acute angle between the intersection lines? (c) What is the acute angle between the fault plane and the bedding plane? Is it possible to explain. Thank you

@@thillaigovi1981 This sounds like it’s from an academic problem set. It’s really quite simple if you can sort through the scenario and recognize what you’re given in terms of geometric elements (lines, planes, apparent dips, etc.) After that, you may find a couple other videos from my stereonets playlist useful (Stereonets for Students of Structural Geology).

Oh. I am the first person to comment on this video even it has a huge views like 1000. I am here to say that you have made this wonderful playlist on stereonet. I loved the whole playlist. I really appreciate the efforts that you have put on making your videos. I rate is 5 by 5 or 9.9 by 10. The visualization using hemisphere was awesome. Your video deserves more views. Though it has lesser number of view, the content is so worthy and am sure that these worthy videos will receive more views in future. Keep up the good work, a great teacher. I will be watching other of your videos too like orthographic, stay motivated, find niche content,I believe you are good at geology teaching, u might be a geology teacher. If you teach geology, you will have a great scope on this KZbin. KZbin demands niche. All the best. Keep growing 😊. Lots of love and respect.

Are you asking about the origin of stereonets? As I understand it, Schmidt (1925) initially used the Schmidt net for analysis of rock fabric. The Schmidt net is used to produce Lambert's equal-area projections (Lambert, 1772). The Wulff net, commonly used in crystallography, is an equal-angle net and gets its name from a Russian crystallographer.

don't see what a lego figure has to do with a right hand rule..you're just looking at which side the arm is on? but that has nothing to do with the right hand, the thumb points the opposite direction....not a good analogy.
@r0ckdoc6407 ай бұрын
I’m not using the (British) "right hand rule", by which the thumb has significance. Instead it's a "right arm rule", whereby the observer's right arm is in the dip direction when he/she faces the strike direction. This is sometimes referred to as the “American right hand rule”.
