How can one join your apprenticeship program without knowing someone on the inside? Seems like everyone gets in through a referral. I've tried calling the Local but they're not much help.

Local 1 IUEC has changed my life! When organizing I was terrified. So many mixed feelings. The IUEC made so many promises that were way to good to be true. Every promise that was made to me was true. The men and women of IUEC have truly made me feel like a brother I wouldn't change my choice to be an IUEC member for a nothing.

My dad is in this local. This union is one of the strongest I have ever seen. They take very good care of you, give you great benefits, and are always on your side. He was an elevator constructor for almost 40 years. He retired from working on elevators, and now he works as an elevator inspector which is still a fun job. The good thing is he’s still in the union

The best trade of all! Loved the guys I worked with! Retired now and enjoying the benefits from the trade! My son works in the trade now and I always stress on working safe to him and everyone still working! Follow the Union safety protocols, and never be pushed by any of the companies to do anything unsafe!

It is an awesome trade I have over 26 years in. You must PAY ATTENTION There are MANY HAZARDS. SAFETY FIRST. There work is awesome something new every day. The only downfall is some of the people are real assholes and backstabbers. But that's everywhere. So pay attention to work safe, and watch your back, and what you do and say, you should be ok. Peace stay safe.

Good luck my friend. It is a very good trade. I retired after 35 years and if I had it to do over again I would not hesitate to do the same thing.Just be aware of the fact that you must study and keep up with you studies. the educational program is second to none. I have been retired for 18 years now and it would be very difficult for me to start again. I try to tell every young person that I meet , that wants to be an Elevator Constructor, to be sure to be a Union Elevator constructor. There is no better way to go. Work safe. Work hard and take care of yourself. Best wishes. (Local 41 Ret.)
