NIce video mate! Architecture gets really interesting when someone dares to think beyond the ordinary. The Sydney Opera House is a prime example of this-its unique, sail-like design wasn't playing it safe at all. Such bold ideas can either flop or become iconic successes. In this case it became a massive hit, showing how stepping outside the comfort zone can lead to something truly extraordinary, just like in life! 😊

It is interesting that humans created solid, quality items decades ago, but we are now stitching them together with rubbish and toxins. It reminds me of the recent story that organic spices contain high levels of lead. Is it that all that effort went into growing beautiful toxin free spices, only to be processed in an old factory using materials that contain lead. I think it's important to keep highlighting these discrepancies and contradictions.

I know in Europe - notably France and the UK the food manufacturers are gauging the supermarkets, to the point that Carrefour in France would put up signs saying how much the food manufacturers are charging them. The Supermarkets in the UK were making record profits in COVID (largely because they were the only thing that could open), but post-COVID their profit margins have been squeezed due to profiteering by food manufacturers, inflation especially on energy and grain due to the war in Ukraine, and a price war (although they're using it to push their loyalty schemes - like Clubcard Prices).

I'm glad that you guys brought up the point of burning plastic. In the end it's the best way to remove it from the cycle. And if I am remembering correctly, we do have a limited number of facilities that exclusively burn trash and focus on converting all of the burnt debris into energy and trapped gases that can be sold. These facilities are also very mindful of the pollution caused by burning plastics, and have advanced filters that keep the toxic chemicals leaking the facility down to a bare minimum. They produce less carbon dioxide than a coal plant. In the United States we only have one major plant that does this on the East Coast, unfortunately it is extremely expensive to build facilities like this, and I hope that we install one on the West Coast soon. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGnUYayHf951arMsi=SbZeWuRRiY0fiDH5

Don't blame the plastic bottle. Blame the people that throw them wherever they please and the shtty governments that fail to provide adequate waste management systems and instead dump their trash into oceans. Take this into account, the weight reductions of plastics have MASSIVELY reduced the fuel and thus CO2 expenditures required to transport things like water or other liquids. Also landfills are marvels of modern engineering. We could fit nearly all the trash ever created in a hole a mile wide and deep, or something like that. Look up the truth about landfills. They were given a bad name pretty much all at once due to a boat filled with trash that no city would accept and it made it on the national news. We can trace the vast amount of plastic pollution to a few small countries in Asia and the worst of them... China (a true eco villain if there ever was).

Please don’t shoot the messenger. 😅😅😅😅 Here it is. A Critical Analysis of "Ghandi Has Something to Teach Us About AI" - fresh from GPT-4o. A Flawed Analogy with Gandhi's Quote. The video attempts to draw an analogy between Gandhi's quote about social movements and the acceptance of generative AI. However, this comparison is inherently flawed for several reasons: Different Contexts: Gandhi's quote pertains to a moral and ethical struggle against colonial oppression-a deeply human and socio-political issue. The resistance he described was against an oppressive regime where the stakes were human rights and national sovereignty. Generative AI, on the other hand, is a technological advancement with implications for efficiency, creativity, and automation. The stakes are different: they are about job displacement, ethical AI use, and technological dependence, not direct human oppression. Stages of Acceptance: Gandhi’s stages (ignore, laugh, fight, win) fit a linear progression of social resistance but do not necessarily apply to technological adoption. Technology adoption often follows a different pattern, such as the Gartner Hype Cycle, which includes phases like the Peak of Inflated Expectations and the Trough of Disillusionment. The speaker’s assertion that humanity is currently in the "fighting" phase against generative AI is speculative and lacks empirical evidence. The stages of resistance Gandhi described do not map directly to how society reacts to new technology, which can have varied and complex responses, including immediate acceptance in some areas and prolonged skepticism in others. Forcing Historical Parallels: The attempt to equate the personal journey of acceptance (ignoring, mocking, fighting, and ultimately coexisting with AI) to Gandhi's quote feels forced. This analogy oversimplifies both the technological evolution and the socio-political resistance Gandhi described. The historical context of Gandhi’s movement was about collective human struggle and empowerment, whereas generative AI's adoption involves individual and institutional decisions driven by utility, market forces, and ethical considerations. Personal Experiences: Insufficient Evidence The speaker uses two personal anecdotes to illustrate the power of generative AI: An email improvement. A sentence enhancement in LinkedIn content. These examples, while illustrative, are limited and subjective: Anecdotal Evidence: Personal anecdotes do not provide a robust basis for broad claims about AI’s capabilities or its societal impact. They reflect individual experiences that may not be representative of wider trends or implications. Lack of Depth: The improvements described are minor tweaks rather than transformative changes, which weakens the argument that AI is fundamentally altering the writer's role. These examples do not substantiate the claim that generative AI will inevitably lead to significant shifts in human creativity or job displacement. Oversimplified Choices for Humanity The video posits a binary choice for humanity: Completely reject AI. Fully embrace AI and potentially lose humanity. This dichotomy is overly simplistic and ignores the nuanced reality of technological integration: Middle Path Ignored: While the speaker briefly mentions a "middle path," the discussion lacks depth and fails to explore practical ways to integrate AI while preserving human values. This path involves complex considerations of ethics, regulation, and collaborative human-AI interaction, which are not adequately addressed. Complex Ethical Landscape: The narrative does not engage with the intricate ethical landscape surrounding AI, such as bias, transparency, accountability, and the potential for misuse. These are critical issues that need thorough examination beyond the simplistic choice of rejection or acceptance. Conclusion The video's argument is weakened by a forced analogy, reliance on anecdotal evidence, and an oversimplified view of the choices humanity faces regarding AI. To present a more compelling case, the speaker should: Provide empirical data and broader examples of AI’s impact. Acknowledge the complexity of technological adoption and the varied societal responses. Engage deeply with ethical considerations and practical solutions for integrating AI into society. By addressing these gaps, the narrative could transition from a superficial analogy to a more robust, evidence-based discussion of AI's role in our future.

I would love to join in on a podcast and discuss more about boycotting the big supermarkets vs. what Anita is cleverly and strategically doing; working with them and against them as they will ultimately make more difference if we get them on side. I really related to the discussion about a small number working really hard to #byocup/container/bag VS new cultures of speedy home delivery/Uber Eats/coffee apps. But if we keep educating about why these cultures are catastrophic for the environment, more and more people will demand this convenience at the expense of the planet is not okay and we may be able to find a way to fit the two together e.g. Uber Eats driver brings back bags and containers when they collect the next order. Customers gives Uber Eats driver bags and containers when they have their new order delivered. AND customer ordering 3 cups of takeaway coffee must give back 3 reusable cups in order to collect their order. I'm always trying to problem solve by looking at psychology, economics, environment like Anita! Let's Podcast and spread this discussion even further 😍
