I was in the UK recently and went to the Tea Room at Carnford Station for afternoon tea where the movie was shot. Watched the movie again last night and couldn’t get over the cringe factor. He is really creepy, asking a woman he doesn’t know for a date, and she seems completely vacuous. I enjoyed the afternoon tea more than the movie. On another note, visited Portmeiron where The Prisoner was filmed. Really enjoyed seeing apartment of Number 6, today a gift shop.

Does anyone remember a BBC serial which appeared ,I think, in the early 60’s. It was called Paradise Street, or possibly Alley, and was broadcast early Saturday evening mainly for children. It was a real groundbreaker as it had a young coloured boy as one of the main characters. He was friends with a similar aged white boy who was the son of a garage proprietor. The garage owner was played by that fine actor George A Cooper, who was rarely off the TV screen during the next 50 years. I don’t really remember the plot, but another of the main characters was a leather clad bully boy who was threatening the two boys for some reason. That bully was Murray Melvin, who I must admit wasn’t someone who I’d naturally cast in such a role. There’s precious little to be found online about this long forgotten serial, but it’s been in my memory ever since. Sometimes I even wondered if I’d dreamt it up, but it did actually exist.

@@cine_wars I got the name wrong. It’s actually Paradise Walk and there’s a brief plot rundown on a website called Nostalgia Central. I did get some of the character profiles mixed up but you’ll find that my description was sort of there in essence.

One of my first contacts with the British new wave theatre was an after party for the Cinematic Premier of "A Taste of Honey". I was totally starstruck at meeting, only very fleetingly, the gorgeous Rita Tushingham. I'd say that, more than any other experience for this ingenue from Australia A Taste of Honey shaped my Anglophile impression of 1950's Britain. I was an extremely minor part of the Colonial influx from Australia. Barry Humphries (Dame Edna - dead) Richard Neville (Oz Magazine - dead) Clive James (Clive James - dead). All my age and far more significant than this fribble. But, here I am to remember them. Barry Humphries, who had travelled on the same ship as my mother and would look her up up whenever he was in Perth. Richard Neville in some of the wild parties in the Barrenjoey Lighthouse at the North end of Palm Beach. I never met Clive, but I relished his fame on British TV for more that 20 years.

I remember staying up to watch this with my late Dad. No, haven't seen it in 25 years either! Favourite footage is seeing Natalie Portman and Jake Lloyd goofing around together on set at 14:58. Clearly both making fun of that melodramatic hairstyle piece that seems ready to tip her over by the sheer weight lol Gotta love artist Doug Chiang declaring, above all else, it is essential that Jar Jar Binks is likeable. Very amusing indeed lol

LIKE THE PRODUCER SAID, ITS A COUPLE WHO ' NEVER HAD THE TIME' TO DEVELOP FURTHER... IN OTHER WORDS, SHOULD SAME COUPLE HAVE WORKED TOGETHER AND SAW EACH OTHER REGULARLY, IT COULD WELL OF TURNED INTO A TRUE LOVE AFFAIR THAT MAY HAVE LED TO DIVORCE, OR AT LEAST THE VERY DEEPEST LOVE AFFAIR FOR A LONG TIME.. BUT AS THEY DIDNT MEET REGULARLY ENOUGH, THEY COULD STOP IT BEFORE IT BEGAN...

Beautiful. I cry each time I watch that final scene. It is heart rending. One if the special features of the characters is the fact that as flawed as they may be, each of them has goodness in their hearts be it the busybody gossip or Celia's husband.
