Great video! I was working in this office right up until the Covid lockdown started in March 2020, so this is all very familiar. This week the building is finally being torn down (the antennas on the roof were mobile phone masts, so they had to be relocated before this one could be demolished).

I stayed here for a few nights in 2015 and hadn't heard of the ghost stories. One night i was nodding off in bed with all the lights out and the sound of what can only be described as someone throwing a big pile of paper at me. I thought it must have been a dream so went back to sleep. Strange after hearing all of the hotels ghost stories

It looks like they are doing some sort of work down there but by the looks of it they are keeping the blast doors and the air filter my guess is it could be used for storage. be good if it was converted into a small museum though as there is nothing like it in that area and it is in a decent location being opposite the leisure centre. Yeah back in the day apparently it was meant to be a sub-regional seat of the government after a nuclear war (SRC bunker) but on wiki it doesn't list it under the SRC bunker list but maybe as it was out of the way of the main population centres it has just received less attention than the others? nice to know cliff sent you aha :).

According to Wikipedia, it is Broad Green railway station that is the world's oldest actively operating railway station, just slightly east of Edge Hill station 🕰🚂
@fkl770
@fkl770 11 ай бұрын
Yeah Correction on that. There have actually been 2 stations by the name Edge Hill station and in the video I am stood where the old edge hill station used to be (in the cutting). The Edge Hill station that exists today was built in 1936 when they wanted to extend the railway further into the centre of Liverpool to Limestreet (oldest grand terminus station in the world) so technically Edge hill is the oldest still operating station under the same name in the world. But as you've said broad green is genuinely the oldest still operating station in the world. Alot of early railway history relies on alot of semantics. Interesting stuff though!

I have a lot of memories from this place. I remember this place from 15 years ago when John Lewis occupied the building. I remember the kids department on the 3rd floor which had all the toys and clothes. I’m not sure if you noticed while you were up on the 3rd floor, but there was an old screen attached to a pole coming out of the ceiling. That’s where the kids shoes used to be. It used to show the ticket number for when kids got their feet measured and shoes fitted with the help of a store assistant. A bit like what they do at Clark’s. But as far as I’m aware that screen is still there even now. I remember the coffee shop on the 3rd floor in the other building too, parts of that are actually still there. The chandeliers for the coffee shop are still visible from street level. Above where TKMaxx is now. The 4th floor in the other building was customer services which I also remember. The ground floor in the other building was jewellery and cosmetics, I remember that. I vaguely remember the second floor in the building you explored having tv’s and landline phones in the triangular shaped section towards the back. I don’t remember much from the 1st floor. I remember the ground floor where Poundland is now having the menswear department. I was only 6 when John Lewis moved from that building to where they are now in 2008. So I’m lucky to remember it in that much detail tbh. The other building was cool at the time though. It had a big row of 4 lifts that went to all the floors. I miss that place from back then. It’s ruined now. I hope a developer actually commits to a plan to get this building back up and running one way or another. I did a little explore of it in November 2018 but it was in functional condition back then. No mold or leaks, just slightly worn out.
@fkl770
@fkl770 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for typing out this comment was a pleasure to read and actually really interesting. I am happy that this video made you reminisce and yeah I hope the developer actually does do it up as they have let the building go into a state of ruin, which is such a waste. I am too young to remember the building I used to go in there as a kid to the Santa's grotto when it was still George henry lees and i don't think i ever went there when it was rapid DIY good to see that others have vivid memories of the place though.
@NostalgiaFromMyChildhood
@NostalgiaFromMyChildhood Жыл бұрын
@@fkl770Yeah no worries. Yes I’ve tried my best to keep remembering the memories. I’m actually really pleased that you and the explorers you teamed up with have taken videos of the building recently. I’ve eagerly been waiting for another video of this place for years. Now there’s finally loads of new ones which have been fun to watch. The 4th floor has changed slightly since I was last in there though. For some reason they’ve ripped the wall down between where the lifts and stairs are and what was the Santa’s grotto. I actually took 3 small minute or 2 minute long videos of floors 4,5 & 6 from back in November 2018. I’m considering compiling them to one video and uploading it to KZbin. I’m actually really pleased that this place is getting more attention too. This is actually inspiring me to do a documentary of my own about this place. Where I could mention my personal experiences and memories going there as a kid. I know that it’s not easy to find many pictures of the place from back when it was John Lewis. But I spent hours looking through the deepest depths of Flickr albums and I managed to find quite a lot of photos from back when it was John Lewis. A lot of them I remember actually. My email is mentioned in the bio of my channel if you want to reach out to me. If you would like I’d be more than happy to share these rarely seen before photos and the video footage I took a few years ago.

@@fkl770 Oo ok thank you. I’ll make sure to credit you for the footage as well. It’s funny because I was just going to make an attempt to go in. @@NostalgiaFromMyChildhood aha well the day after we last went in the cargo lift door we used to get in got padlocked shut and when one of my friends KZbin videos was premiering he got a message from a worker who was working on the building asking how he got in and that. The only entrance that i can think off is a broken window on the 1st floor you'd have to have a ladder to get up and bellow is an abandoned shopfront window looks pretty dodgy that's what we were planning to do before we found the open cargo lift door.
