Interesting process. I've never seen someone print their digital page to then ink it and scan it again to edit the page. I guess you do it to accentuate the shadows and give it a more traditional feel with the inking by hand. That's really the first time i see someone come to this result. Also props for doing that and giving traditional art a place in your workflow. I've seen artists pick one or the other in their workflow but seeing them work hand in hand shows theres still to discorver by allowing these two techniques co exist.

I will never understand how manga/comic artists just start inking seemingly out of nowhere lol
@TinyPowerComics8 ай бұрын
i usually ink in reading order, then in "plane" order (foreground to mid then background). ill make exceptions if theres things i need to group in the same layer for some reason. its 1000x less stressful since its digital (even though you have to deal with minor parallax, you get used to that), but really i just treat it like im refining soft/several lines into their "average" to make a cleaner line, while also refining small proportion/posing/wardrobe/prop/background issues. what boggles me is how people that are actually talented can ink with no underdrawing. what bugs me is some artists do pencils as clean as inks but dont bother trying/learning to ink their own work. i could theoretically turn down the opacity or change color on these inks to refine again in a 3rd or 4th pass, but thats just madness. no art is ever really finished, just abandoned. im already spending about 3x too much time on any given page as is. mostly because im always working at 100% of my skill instead of actually being better & cranking out pages at around 60% of my skill (like most other mangakas/sequentialists do [musicians do that too]).
@systemcat808 ай бұрын
That speed view of your page creation process was really something, and a reminder why I love the medium of comic illustration. You have more a complex process to your pages in going from more use of rough lines, to I'm surprised no glancing at character refences for drawing. To printout with traditional refining and then more refining (digital) when the page is returned to Clip Studio. If you aren't already a professional in this field, you should be.
@TinyPowerComics8 ай бұрын
I absolutely look at tons of reference, i have it set up on a 2nd monitor not captured in the timelapse. I constantly worry about both continuity & consistency, & i still keep a long list of edits i have to do when i finish the chapter as i notice them when looking back on finished pages. if i scrutinized any further id never get anything done. no such thing as too much reference. when you work faithfully to your designs, you create new accurate reference material in every page. thanks for watching & the flattering words!

Hi, TPC. You have a great vid here. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us. btw may I know what's the name of the stapler you use? It's not usual to see that kind of thing, specially here in our local bookstore or office supplies. Thanks ^_^
@TinyPowerComics8 ай бұрын
hello justin, thanks so much for your support. im using the Bostitch Booklet Stapler here, it can handle up to 20 sheets (or "leaves") which would be up to an 80 "page" book. i was able to find it on Amazon. its very important to curve the ends of your pages as you see in the video, because if you dont, the pages will crease as you attempt to align the spine on the vertice. thanks again for your comment, it helps others with the same question as well.

@TinyPowerComics Жыл бұрын
@@ahjinryu9553 if theres any part of the process youre curious about, please ask & ill answer publicly. i havent added commentary because the videos move too quickly to keep up with (also already very time-consuming to edit as is). maybe thats the reason i dont get more likes but i also dont have much to say for each vid. the process is very repetitive since im not trying to teach fundamentals & the only difference is the progression of the story. a few people have asked for commentary but when i reply to ask what they want to hear, they dont reply. idk if you all would care to hear me just talk about unrelated stuff but then that would be stuck in the video & everyone else would have to mute it & personally i like silent drawing videos, so i can have my music or a tv show in the background. i may make some music to add in the future but i worry that may turn away people that dont like my music. if theres something specific youd like me to expand on, i can make a separate special video in real time with commentary for that! 👍✌

I really dig it. You did great job on this. The switch to traditional medium really brings it together. With powerful digital canvases like Clip Studio, a lot of new artists try to skip past the importance of the fundamentals and their works have this flat, plastic-quality, uncanny valley look to them. This was very refreshing. Keep up the great work and take the sub.

Printing paper type and paper size?
@TinyPowerComics Жыл бұрын
@TinyPowerComics 1 second ago hi thanks so much for watching. i havnt found the perfect paper yet, & it seems large printing companies keep a monopoly on it because when i inquired with several suppliers about consumer tier magazine type paper, they say its been discontinued. the paper im using here is recycled smooth 89gsm for interior pages & single sided glossy 240gsm for the cover. REMEMBER THAT TYPICAL GLOSSY ONLY ACCEPTS DYE INK (PRIMARILY BLACK) & MANY INK SUPPLIERS ARE SELLING PIGMENT INK (WHICH ONLY ADHERES TO SPECIAL RESIN COATED PAPER, AGAIN THIS IS PRIMARILY ONLY AN ISSUE WITH BLACK) BECAUSE IT MAKES THEM MORE PROFIT. DYE IS SUPERIOR & NON-COATED PAPER REPRODUCES LIKE A PHOTOGRAPH. I use 11x17 (tabloid, slightly different than A3, you must have it set correctly in your software) for this size comic. thanks again, i have lots of other videos on here, please check them out & tell your friends. ive finally gotten back to working on new pages & a new video should be up soon for a 2-page spread!
