I got the TTArtisans version of this dot sight yesterday (half the price of the Olympus) and used it for the first time with my Fuji XT5 and 150-600mm shooting handheld BIF. The limitations you describe are spot on and I had to recalibrate several times after my forehead brushed against it and caused it to move slightly in the hot shoe. I'll try it again using it primarily as a aid to finding the bird in the viewfinder. A somewhat useful gadget, but you really need to check the viewfinder for focus.

I recently bought a Nikon Zf having upgraded from a Df. I’ve loved years of service with my Nikon 50mm f1.4 AF-D. I had to upgrade in order to keep auto focus. I must say the Nikon z50mm1.8S knocks my old lens off the table in just about every category, excepting size. It’s a brilliant, brilliant lens and I’ve parked my 24-70AFSG f2.8 zoom for now as I just can’t get over the sharpness of the new 50. Worth the price for sure. 10/10 Nikon. 👍

Good review, the falloff is indeed good and controlled on the 85mm Z. While the G lens had color fringing at 1.8 quite a bit I thought it had a bit more character than my Z. I kind of regret selling it in that regard.

Hi thanks for the review. I have an A7r and an A5100 and I am looking to get a 15mm lens (or equivalent f.o.v) Which would be the better lens between this Laowa 15mm F5 and the Laowa 10mm F4 for aps-c. Light gathering is pretty similar and I’m not bothered about 36mp vs 24mp so I guess it comes down to sharpness and vignetting. Any thoughts greatly appreciated (now subscribed 😊)
@PR-Reviews17 күн бұрын
I have not tested the Laowa 10mm, so it is difficult for me to say the difference, but I can tell you that by using that 10mm on your A7R you use it as an APS-C camera. This means that you will have two APS-C cameras. The lens does not cover the fullframe image area, when you crop to get rid of the black corners/edges you will have about the same angle as you have on A5100. If you decide to go for the 10mm APS-C, I'd recommend the TTArtisan 10mm ttartisan.store/products/102/?ref=deicqj08 it is 2 stops faster and has quite good performance, see my review of it here: phillipreeve.net/blog/review-ttartisan-10mm-f-2-aps-c/

If you compare it to the Sony 50mm f1.2 GM, you can see that the Nikon 50mm f1.2 S's autofocus is slow and noisy. It's also unnecessarily big and heavy. If you look at the Sigma 50mm f1.2 or the Sony 50mm f1.2 GM, you can see that it can be done better, smaller and lighter - and if you look at the Sigma, also for half the price. In my opinion, this Nikon 50mm f1.2 lens urgently needs a Mk II update.

What is DX mode?
@PR-ReviewsАй бұрын
@tonypaulprince In Nikon cameras, the DX mode makes the full-frame camera act like an APS-C camera. It does this by using the Centre part of the sensor only, as large as on an APS-C camera. You will get exactly the same effect as if you had been using an APS-C camera. So, it converts you fullframe camera to an APS-C camera.

Thanks for the review. I recently got the multicoated M42 black version. Some years before I had a bad copy of the Prakticar-Version. That bad copy was clearly inferior to the M42 copy I have right now. East German lenses commonly suffer from large sample variation and the newer they are the worse it gets. Did a little comparison with my Minolta MC Tele Rokkor 2.8/135mm. My Minolta is a little sharper wide open, but has more color fringing and is larger and much heavier.

TTartisan Helios 58mm should be their next goal, I will buy it in a heart beat.
@thebitterfig99032 ай бұрын
I’d love it if they crossed this end of the business (vintage optical designs) with their autofocus lenses. Getting something like a 40mm f/1.5 Biotar for X-Mount with all electronic controls? Classic optics with modern convenience. Or, just a manual focus 40mm Biotar for APS-C sized sensors. So much of the charm of these lenses is lost on crop sensors, since the “flaws” that make them fun live at the edge of the image circle. Shrinking the image circle and focal length ought to be possible, and it’d also probably be a hit.
