I definitely vibe with a lot of this video. My dad was who got me into gaming, so I have quite a few games that I got because either I watched him play, or played it with him. It was basically the catalyst for how got into final fantasy, I basically watched him play 7-12 throughout my childhood and then my first game independent of him was 13. A game a I have a good bit of nostalgia from at the time was shinobi on the ps2! It's good to kill time for a few hours, but it isn't nearly as great as it was in my childhood. (on a side not shinobi on ps2 should *totally* be in dopaland!) my favorite game of all time kinda has a mix of different nostalgias attached to it, my dad gave The World Ends With You to me when i was about 9ish so it always had a lot of sentimental value to me. As I grew up and replayed the game, with an actual capacity to understand the story, it continued to grow into a more personal attachment. The story had a lot of beats that resonated with my struggles growing up, and every time I go back to replay it I always walk out of it with something new and personal to me. Thank you for the great content! I love these more philosophical videos, they always give a lot of food for thought.

I mean it's just as problematic to pull the " it's just video games," line than it is to try and force meta ideas onto players who aren't particularly interested. There's nothing wrong with taking something seriously if that's what you enjoy. Some games I use 0 research and play a free form experience ( as long as others aren't involved ), but if a game has a competitive element I get more joy out of min/maxing the experience because the goal of the game is competitive. Using the phrase " it's just video games," is extremely toxic in nature. I often think people who use that phrase and do whatever they want think they're being particularly unique, but honestly worldwide there is definitely an epidemic of people not taking anything seriously, and it's honestly annoying as hell ( this is not directed at you particularly.) There was a fairly popular musician who had a great rant on the topic ( I think her artist name was Ethel Cain,) but it definitely stuck with me because it was something I had been thinking about for a long time anyway. Then again, I'm a middle aged autistic person who takes basically everything too seriously according to most people.
@queendopaminКүн бұрын
coming from my perspective, I would say there has been an epidemic of people taking things too seriously for far too long rather than there being an epidemic of people not taking things seriously now. it's crazy to me that taking video games seriously is the norm when that norm is literally people taking a thing seriously that is a game. this goes back to stuff like monopoly where people taking it seriously were kind of the problem. same goes for like magic the gathering for me. I used to play that in groups where I was always the chaotic jokester with ludicruos decks and the people I had the least fun playing against were people that were playing decks that they did not come up with themselves with the goal to win the most consistently and possibly the fastest. I'm not saying you are wrong or you do not have a point, I'm saying that I wish people would stop wanting me to take video games seriously. They can do whatever they want but I would ask them to also let me do whatever I want as well and I don't believe that makes me extremely toxic.
@Pizzanomicon22 сағат бұрын
@@queendopamin I just said in situations it is very toxic. It's like imagine you're playing a game that is designed to be competitive and you're queue'ing for a game mode where the assumption is that everyone playing is going to put out their best actual effort. One of your teammates is clearly not taking the experience seriously and when you inquire why they are basically trolling their response is " it's just a video game." It's just kind of like not respecting other peoples time. I guess that's more of what I'm eluding to.
@queendopamin20 сағат бұрын
@@Pizzanomicon well that's just not what I was ever talking about though e: like, of course I'm not going to places that are specifically made for people to compete and be like "uh why are you guys taking this so seriously" lmao
@Pizzanomicon19 сағат бұрын
@@queendopamin I was in a rush so I didn't elaborate further, but I think it applies in some regards because you gotta know more or less what you're getting yourself into when you agree to do activities with other people. Like if you actively agree to do activities with other people and they do things a certain way, and/or follow metas etc, and you actively do whatever you want even though you know it doesn't align with other peoples interests, it's like what are you even doing ? Like if I was trying to play coop BG3 and someone kept trying to be like we need to X because " it's good," like I would just not be playing games with that person/people lmao. BG3 is a game , that I personally like to do as a more free form experience, with the exceptions of doing solo tactician runs, in which I do have to take it a bit more seriously. I just find it concerning when people have the 100 percent attitude of " games aren't serious," " I always do what I want no matter who I'm doing it with," and then complain when other people don't like it. I mean it sounds like you need to find people who align more with the experience you want, so you can be goofy and chaotic together. I have various friends/acquaintances who I do varying gaming activities with with different intentions. I would never troll my friends experience for my own personal entertainment and try to pretend it's anything but. Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but from what I understand, that's just how I feel personally. Ultimately I think it's good to be mindful of what you're doing and who you're doing it with and respect peoples time accordingly because that's the currency of life lmao. I can also tell you with a large amount of certainty with the extreme amount of gaming I've done over the 40 years of my life, people have only become less serious about everything to do with gaming. There may be tons of content on min/maxing your experience but 80 percent of people dgaf about any of that. I'm currently playing New World again and trying to get people in dungeon finder to just run the dungeon remotely efficiently is like the most nightmarish experience I've had in recent memory. Again it goes back to people just not respecting peoples time at all. It's like if you want to slow crawl dungeons make your own custom group with people that want that experience. It's like do you know how many times a week I get called a " nerd " in a game for knowing a lot of technical shit about games. Like there is an epidemic in modern gaming of normal ass people thinking it's not nerdy to play video games and " it's just not that deep," and they don't respect peoples time. It's only gotten significantly worse in the past 10 years or so. This also alludes back to mentioning it outside the bubble of gaming with the culture of the western hemisphere and how people treat everything like it's a joke or a meme , and people can't even try to do anything serious anymore without it being trivialized by lukewarm brained normal people. Like imagine calling someone a nerd in a fantasy game and the intention was to bully xD. I know a lot of this is off topic but for whatever reason my brain thinks it feels relevant and related even if distantly.

I think most people are too used to consume in a way that doesn't need them to think or be creative, new games have a gigantic arrow pointing where you have to go with big bright text telling you what to do and that is how they think the game should be used, and if you do something outside of that then you are clearly wrong and you don't know how to play or you don't like gaming... its a very childish way of thinking but i think it applies to a lot of gaming public.

well, i really do want to be optimal. i want to connect with games and their creators and other players. right? but i've never experienced games in ways that other players have. and if i were better in a whole bunch of ways, i would probably like a lot of games. right now, games are just overwhelming, too much stuff. and i've missed out in a lot of ways that are depressing. like, i've never been "good" at anything. its always a fleeting thing weighed down by how passive and superficial and careless and low effort i am. i've never played an awesome multiplayer game with other people or had a relationship with another player that i valued enough to consider meaningful.

would you invite people to watch a movie with you just to pause the movie on your favourite frame never to finish the movie without prior notice or anything I think that there are a lot of expectations like finishing a movie that just get ingrained in people games usually have an intended design to provide a certain experience refusing to respect that might annoy people when they are trusting you in sharing an experience with you I'm down with doing thing differently subverting expectations but the conflict that arise from that isn't a complete mystery to me spawn camping is understood to be an unintended flaw in the design for a lot of game if you are doing it you will be judged for exploiting it by putting yourself first like you would by choosing to pick the meta deck I think that there is value in being content as there is in progression we live in a society where progress is far more valued because you might go on to experience bigger and better things
@queendopamin3 күн бұрын
to be fair, I warned people about the fan a couple times before and put it up to a poll when we got there. so it'd kinda be like inviting people to watch a movie, warning them that I have this frame I really love and then when the frame happened asking everyone if they would want to stop there, right? actually this exact same thing has happened to me with cloverfield where there's hidden frames in the movie lmao but truly, I think what johnny said is true. if people want to experience bigger and better things, they should do that themselves instead of getting upset at me for not doing it. I'm just one streamer out of countless others, most of which are doing things the way you're supposed to do them. there is probably more value in me doubling down on not doing things the way you're supposed to, because there is only one person that can do things the exact way that I do them (like stacking all the garbage in a deus ex map to get back to a pointless side mission)
@Wafawel3 күн бұрын
what i said was not specifically just about the Alien Isolation fan I agree that doing things your way may be way more interesting than completly compromising and turning into yet another let's player in a sea of let's players I think that some amount of conflict when breaking expectations is to be expected and also somewhat valid there's "always" a cocktail of trust and expectations present when doing things with/for other people challenging those in any way is naturally likely to provoque a reaction doesn't mean it shouldn't be done

I think you said it best yesterday when streaming Alien Isolation, we as the audience can always go and search up hundreds or thousands of other people playing Alien Isolation running through the whole game but how many of them would have been stuck at the fan and done a fan only stream, none of them most likely but we still choose to stick around as that is the QueenDopamin experience. Even if i (god forbid) got a little bit bored of the fan it still worth staying around to see you take the simple pleasure in these game and have a chance to just chill out and interact with the chat. As you said video games are a experience of entertainment and people choose to experience entertainment in different ways, some people see set paths to complete experiences and follow them but the majority of the best gaming experiences in my opinions are the ones you create for yourself, breaking the game or messing around with random stuff to create your own adventure. You do you Queen, spend as much time at the fan as needed
