For some reason it reminds me of the chord changes from Angels by The XX.

Wow, what a treat! Here's a double discovery: ixi discovering an Aphex Twin album - and specifically DrukQs, at that - AND my discovery of you @ixi! What joy this video was to watch and hear your analysis, description, etc. of the entire album! I love how in depth you went with it all...including all the humor along the way. Oh, and kudos on keeping the leaf-turned-eye flower in your hair throughout the video - nice touch. Again, what a delight of a discovery!

Still is an especially sad album, and probably my favorite or at least second favorite. It’s at least within the top 3, with TDS and the Fragile being in that area of discography for me.

Incredible music and enjoyable analysis. I recall my mind being blown when this album came out in 2002. It was such a huge jump from the musical stylings of their previous albums. Hard to believe these complex songs were written by a guy who was only 22 years old.

Are you talking about the Ruiner cover? I certainly hope you do join because it's an awesome group and it's my primary means of support, but there's not much more of it on the Patreon version, just the prechorus additionally, I think? Just don't want you to be disappointed!

You're spot on comparing it to a musical. In the live performances of this album, he calls the first and second halves of the show "Act 1" and "Act 2". If you can, I'd recommend getting a hold of the live DVD version of this album since you're into musicals, and this would give you the full visual spectacular of it: Live from Faraway Stables. It's also on KZbin in low res.

I totally hear the carnival aspect of what you're talking about around 30:15, but I never heard it that way until you mentioned it. What I felt was a little different. I paint, so I will use images to describe the feeling. Start with pitch black. Ok, now there is a faint layer of dark red over the black. Now, the dark red is becoming more red, but it's losing the height dimension. As the pitch ascends, the red become pink, then quickly escalates into a scintillating white hot sensuous line before it disappears completely. Then it begins again. In my mind, Reznor is imitating what sensual touch or lick feels like, and he's doing it all up in your brain.

17:41… Those singing passages are very impressive. Usually involuntary vibrato comes through in lesser singers. In the first song you covered I think that is Daniel playing the piano at the start. He has a grand piano in his home. He commented in a documentary about the making of the album that he was listening to a lot of music like Kate Bush and Judy Garland so it influenced the album in a huge way. The song “Tuna in the brine”, you can search on here for the “isolated vocals” version of that song, which is incredible to hear the effort he went to in the layering of harmonies.

In the darkest tragedies, there is always a miracle. In every such miracle, there is the tragedy of passing from it and back into the major tragedy, not sure if you really experienced what you winessed or if anyone would understand if you talked about it.

Hi Ixi, I'm new your channel, what gold mine, thank you for sharing your talents with us - Subscribed, and am getting your digital album. I was wondering, could you or Pax take apart one the songs from Dream Theater, something fun like Octavarium, Illumination Theory or Count of Tuscany? Not sure you might fancy them. Thanx in advance. This is in my top 5 modern rock albums of all time. Another album worth checking out, an adventurous swing by a little bit heavier (metal/rock) band, would be Say Hello to Sunshine by the band Finch. There’s plenty of unconventional stuff going on that I never would have expected from them based on their prior catalogue.

Funny you should mention Finch! I know that record very well, but no one else seems to know about them so every time I say "oh this reminds me of Finch" I hear crickets! Now I know if I make a video about it at least one person will watch it ;)
