I can see this is good for winter or colder climate when dogs aren’t panting as much, but summer time? I’m not so sure this would be good.
@Thoughtful_PawsАй бұрын
He can open his mouth fully. The Gentle Leader is a bit more minimalist. He has no problem panting in the summer. They can, eat, drink, grab balls. It does not pinch the muzzle and can just be pulled of the muzzle. That's why there's a safety strap. They can swipe the nose part off with their paws.

Yeah we just got a dog few days back .. pulls like crazy. I tried the Halti yesterday and it worked amazingly well. Hopefully at some point he won't need it. Till then I will keep using it. The only problem is getting it on because my dog doesn't stay still like yours when putting it on. 😂
@Thoughtful_PawsАй бұрын
They will get used to it. And there's nothing wrong with staying with it. Some dogs are just pullers. I also use the Gentle Leader which is similar. You can also mix it up with something like an Easy Walk harness. This is a front pull harness. Not as effective as the Halti but still pretty good.
@jo10016Ай бұрын
I use big dog styles halti great for big dog pullers. can I ask why your nose bit is loose, I was told to put it on so nose bit doesn't move up or down on the nose, so doesn't rub.
@Thoughtful_PawsАй бұрын
I leave it loose enough to allow proper airflow in and out of the nose and so it doesn't leave a line in his fur. It works great like this. I always have the safety tether attached.

I gotta learn how to whistle!
@Thoughtful_PawsАй бұрын
It took me a while to figure out how to whistle with my fingers but I started with a shepherds whistle. Look them up on Amazon. They are not expensive. They are a little half moon shaped flat wafer with a hole in it.

@celinaphem3895 That is a large but I am now finding the Gentle Leader to be more effective and also less restrictive. I use a medium for the GL.

I whistle with my fingers but you can buy a venturi whistle. Not expensive and you live in the country where they were invented. I'll send you a picture. Just go to Amazon and look for "Shepherds Whistle"

Looks like you're getting there. It's really tough with a dog that's not a puppy. They have a good understanding of their freedom when away from you and it takes a long time to reshape their mind.

If you hit the quip corn starch works great to stop the bleeding then clean it thoroughly and apply antibiotics ointment to prevent infection.
@Thoughtful_Paws6 ай бұрын
Agreed. He has some black nails that are harder to judge. I find the grinder is much more gradual, whereas with the clippers, it is harder to go bit by bit without constantly readjusting. And for him, the grinder is way better tolerated for some reason.
@ltpdogtrainingNJ6 ай бұрын
What shape should the nail be after being dremeled? I don't know what you mean by 'grind down until the curve is gone...?'. Before: ∆ After: π ? Are we aiming for a flat top? Thank you!
@Thoughtful_Paws6 ай бұрын
Hard to explain. But a very good question. The tip of the nail is rounded. It comes to a rounded tip like you show in your Before symbol. Another way to think of it is to get the "after" shape to look like the "before" shape, just on a slightly shorter nail.
@ltpdogtrainingNJ6 ай бұрын
@@Thoughtful_Paws so from side view it makes the same (obtuse triangle) shape as these three finger tips make in this emoji? 💅
@rebeccasdogtraining6 ай бұрын
@@ltpdogtrainingNJif the nails are black it’s easy to cut to short so some trick for that there is a nail clipper that you can get that has a stopper so you don’t go to short. For the bleeding you can use corn starch or a product called kwik stop. What I find easier is to use a nail clipper and then to make it less sharp I use the grinder. But if you are using the grinder only, then it’s like a oval shape at the end like 💅🏻. Sorry the groomer in me had to help haha
@Thoughtful_Paws6 ай бұрын
Much appreciated. I hate the black nails. Our clippers have the stop on it so I was surprised when it bled. I know quite a number of owners who don't, or can't cut their dogs nails. I tell them that it changes how their feet make contact with the ground. I don't think anyone takes me seriously.

@@Thoughtful_Paws it always depends too if the quick is long or short on the dog.
