Impressive. What a show. My dad had a 55 Chevy in Okinawa in 62. First car I remember as a kid of 5 yo. He was in the Air Force and stationed there with me and my three siblings. When we moved star side he sold it to an airman there. It might still be there for all we know. Love American Graffiti and remember seeing it in the Theaters in 73. We had just returned from three years stationed in Italy. What a welcome home movie. Thanks for the video. You guys put those beauties through their paces.

In 1975, a 1963-built front engine dragster dropped in my lap. With a complete rebuild (Buick engine and Ford truck trans discarded), it became a self-starting SBC , powerglide B/Econodragster. The trans was built as a race unit, the engine wasn't, but got my feet wet, Two years later, I had a converted AA/FD car with a well-built 302 Chevy, meaning I ran the next-lower class, C/ED. And I ran a best 9.35, not far off the index. Which has me wondering about a Big Block car nearly fifty years later only 4 tenths quicker.

My brother and I talked our dad into a 255 c.u. dual-four LeSabre while shopping for a new car at the Buick dealership in '64. It would blow small block chevy 'vettes away regularly, much to their chagrin.

I was at our local dragstrip when a girl was trying to learn how to drive a rail drag car and making practice runs. She made a burnout, backed up and stopped. A track worker was right behind the car. She went to make a second burnout but forgot to take the car out of reverse. The guy was run over and died at the scene.
@RACEYOURRIDE5 күн бұрын
Wow how sad, imagine the guilt on the girl's conscience, besides the grief of the family, friends and co workers of the poor man ran over. 🙏
@igoski15825 күн бұрын
@@RACEYOURRIDE I don't know, but I would say, she never tried to drive a race car again. Not the drag strip name but the eighth mile track is named after him, in his memory.
@RACEYOURRIDE4 күн бұрын
@@igoski1582 Yeah would be hard to go to racing after that. It's great they named the track after him!
