I think my favorite deaths are in the VGA version of SQ1, specifically the ones where they have the instant replay/commentary accompanying the usual snarky rebukes. It hit the "Two Guys" tone just right, and I laughed and laughed the first time I encountered one of those. I wish they'd done that for all the deaths in the game, although I'm sure it was a lot of work to do that for the two or three deaths they did. Perfection!

This game is so weird when you look at it with 2025 eyes. It's a mix of G and R content, like an adult and kids game made into one. But we did not yet understand are known what to do with the rating system, leading to stuff like this, Also the idea kids understand, so why hide it to a point.

Yeah, I get the feeling that even Sierra couldn't figure out who the target audience was. Or they were trying to hit both kids *and* adults, and didn't quite strike the balance.

Parents these days don't even care about filtering content to their children, and then those kids show others. Actual porn is WAY too accessible to kids now. I know this makes sense sound like a tight ass but I see how my kid's peers act and they all try to be adults. It's pathetic.

I love this game and TXF and just finished watching your series. This is maybe a bit unfair as i have played through it already 2 times in the last 25 years and you played it live and for the first time, but there is a logic to the movement (you turn 90 degrees everytime, in some special areas it's 180) and in some areas you didn't use that and then got lost because you acted too hastily (in Rauchs house or the trainyard for example). This made me scream at my laptop a few times :D But yeah this game is very hard, trial&error-heavy and lots of pixel hunting. I wouldn't encourage players (especially live streamers) to play this without a walkthrough or without the help function that you can activate in the options menu (it shows you hints in the top right corner). It may not feel as rewarding playing it this way but at least you see all of this interactive movie, on my first try i got stuck at the first warehouse (it was the time before internet was everywhere, you had to buy the guide). Anyway this was a great nostalgic watch and i subscribed!
@muldrake24 күн бұрын
btw did you notice the subliminal messages that appear throughout the game? it happens if you choose "paranoid" or some similar mood one or a few times during dialogues as it seems. It's really short glimpses of text on the screen and you have to pause the video to read it, during the game it's impossible. I love that they put so much detail work into this game
@muldrake24 күн бұрын
Besides that, you missed a few hilarious death scenes. There is one version were Cook is with the coroner to identify your body and then lights a cigarette outside (the way the CSM always does it) but idk what triggers it. Then another one in the last section were Scully is infected with the black oil and kills you (the trigger is awkward, you basically just step into the "wrong" room). You also missed the cutscene with Cook in the operation room were he explained why he was doing all that (you stunned him too early) - well it's not that interesting in the end, his reason was money.

You know how I think they could've resolve this love triangle? In the supposed 7th title, they could've made a villain who intends to clone Roger for their army. Since he defeated many criminals throughout the galaxy, it would've made the villain misguidedly believe him to be highly valuable specimen. Again, mirroring Sharpei's original plan to take over his body and all. So, during the game, the clone, who turns out to be a better version of the original Roger, ends up falling for Beatrice, who reciprocates his feelings. And there you go. With Roger still technically being Roger jr.'s father, the latter still ends up being born and saving him in SQ4. And with no commitment to both Bea and the time paradox that preserves his existence, he can finally enter a relationship with Stellar. Be free to point out every inconsistency in this scenario, as it's been awhile since I revisited SQ series, after all. Merry Christmas, by the way)

@decafjedi love that. Some of those demos were very cool; I remember asking someone at Walden software in the early 90s if Conquests of the Longbow was a talkie, and he said no, just the demo unfortunately. I was too young to put two and two together and realize that all the full speech was happening over in the world of CD-ROMs! It's funny to think how jazzed I would get over the slightest little bit of speech in a game, which I absolutely did in Conquests when they sent the Sheriff of Nottingham riding backwards on his horse, sans clothes, and Robin Hood and all the Merry Men laughed at him over and over. It was a magical time 😄

The closest we get to a Sierra Christmas Quest...or Bible Quest..., though we do have Sam and Max Ice Station Santa, and very brief AGS stories. I guess they figure it's not good business to make a game that people may only buy/play during December (even though they rushed other games to release in that month). 1988 is my favorite, though some disappointment they didn't play silent night on the MT-32. Some nice music on 1992 though, and I love the snowy version of the Sierra logo.

If I remember correctly, the creators of SQ said that they regret creating Beatrice in the first place, 'cuz forcing Rog to being committed to just one woman due to a time paradox reasons limits comedy around his love life. Again, I could be wrong and I don't have the source to this anymore. Roger has a fun chemistry with Stellar. Maybe they were planning on addressing this love triangle and hooking them both together somehow in the next game before it got cancelled?
@decafjediАй бұрын
I think they definitely wanted to set up some kind of love triangle after writing themselves into a corner with the "future wife" thing. I liked Stellar; it's too bad we didn't get to hang out more with her in SQ6.
