If ever there should come a time when your singing career rises to such a level that you become world famous and adored by millions of fans over the many decades that span your career. And if, during said career, there should come a time when those in higher places of influence should decide to honor you, to give you your “roses” while can still appreciate them, consider yourself loved. However, in planning that occasion, when you are asked who you would like to invite to pay tribute to you by performing some of your more classic and memorable songs, do not ask Patti. That will never be your song again.

Aretha looks mad? I don't see that. Aretha did hug her. Any other female might not have gotten a hug. I think Aretha was pleased with what Patti did. It was a song Aretha sister Carolyn wrote. I've watched this video many times. Looks like Aretha was thinking about her sister and had a dazed look on her face

There is no doubt that I am one of, if not, Aretha Franklin’s biggest fan and supporter. I often read comments from people that Aretha Franklin was jealous of this female singer and that female singer. Such as Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, and others. Aretha Franklin’s career and stardom opened the doors for the very women she is compared or put in completion with. Not to mention, Patti and Gladys on their own volition have expressed the impact that Aretha’s career and gift have had on them. In the words of Gladys with group of women, colleagues or what have you, you will have disagreements but you worked through them. But after reading both books on Aretha’s life, one written by her with David Ritz and the second written by David Ritz without her blessing. I quickly discovered that Aretha’s biggest competition wasn’t the female singers she was put in competition with. Her biggest competitor or rival was her and her successes, or what she perceived to be a lack of success. Many people who reach the heights of greatness rarely see themselves as great as others see them.

As much as it pains me to type these words, Patti's version is better than Aretha's version. And I know that's just downright disrespectful (my apologies Aretha) but that's Patti being Patti 🤷🏾‍♂️. Love you Aretha. R.I.P. Legend.

The Queen had that fake smile and at the end gave her the fake pat on her shoulders while Parti went in for the full hug. It’s said that Aretha was funny style about any other singers that could match her or had more than she had in belting out them hits. No one can dispute the Queen! But Patti took that train uptown and danced all over it! Then did it again at the Kennedy Center Honors and Aretha didn’t like it then either. Probably why she stopped talking to her. Aretha did go they a lot but that ain’t no reason to not appreciate your fellow Sista of Soul! But I do remember that scene in her autobio movie where Dinah Washington says to Aretha.. “B, you don’t sing 🎤 the Queens song when the Queen is sitting in front of you!” Lol

I’m not sure if I left a comment before, but every time I watch this performance, it’s like seeing it for the fist time. I so wish I was in the audience to see this. She sang that song, okay! VOCALS!!! I’d be at a lost for words if I was Aretha!
