I came across him in the early 60's,,he was on stage in a youth club on O'Hogan road in Ballyfermot singing Rolling stones songs,,,,Little Red Rooster and Just a Walkin the Dog,,,Gerry Jago was doin the singin,,,Whelan was on the gitter (GUITAR). A girl beside me got excited and asked me to go outside and do the gee,,,I agreed to her request,,so I missed the rest of the show...Doing the gee, ( hard G ) was a big sin in Ireland in the 60's,,,But I didnt care cos i have been a sex fiend since the age of 7ven. Anyway,,I got to know the band,,,went camping once with them to Killiney beach.
