I still wonder: 1. If it goes under the horizon, it should be safe... unless it's very close to Polaris, which would leave most of northern hemisphere exposed 24/7 but leave the southern unaffected. 2. Meh. In real life it would not be THAT bad. We live in an information age. and you know, supernova is not visible at the same time on the WHOLE planet, so other areas would be warned before earth rotates.
