I've always been a little nervous about having Disney, or any of the big streaming services involved. Their business model relies on them bringing in new customers and older shows don't do that, thus why shows tend to last 3-4 seasons at the most...

My problem with current Who is that it's somehow turned into Glee. Singing, dancing, musical numbers? I don't watch DW for that. I would also like to remove the Doctor's sexuality. I don't care if the current incarnation is gay or not; but it just gets in the way. I didn't care for River kissing the Doctor either. And I agree with other commenters about budget; RTD is all about the alien of the week and making it look amazing (and sometimes marketable as cute). I'm not interested in the FX; even when Eccleston was fighting the Slitheen. Spectacle is irrelevant. Doctor Who started out as an alien detective show with some science added in. I'd like to return to that direction. And stop focusing so much on the companions. I couldn't care less about Ruby's family, etc.

I think this could ALL change by 2025 because the agreement with HBO ends at that time if I recall, allowing a provider like Disney to finally carry ALL of the content in one place, at least all of the Modern Who. I don't know about the agreement with Tubi in the US, if that alligns as well, this could finally create a Disney Whoniverse if the timing is right.

The idea that long waits between seasons can damage momentum seems to me a lot like the old TV mindset. We see increasingly more 2+ year gaps on popular streaming shows with little negative impact. Audiences now are inundated with content, along with more ways to engage with fandom (eg: this channel) thus quality over quantity should be the main goal.

Just because the actor/doctor is gay doesn't mean every episode should be a Broadway show. Let's hope seasons 2 & 3 are not Dr Whoiscals. The song and dance numbers have to go. Just give us good story lines and plots and we'll watch.

I became a fan of the show when every planet in the universe was filmed in a quarry in North London! Totally agree the story and acting is far more important than high budget visual effects.

I’ve watched Doctor Who from the very first showing of An Unearthly Child back in 1963, and I’ve suck with it through the Whittaker/Chibnall and Gatwa/RTD era. Let’s be honest the Whittaker and Gatwa series haven’t worked for Whovarians, I’m old school and didn’t really like new-Who post-1989 and if I had my way they would reboot the Hartnell Doctor with David Bradley. New First Doctor stories, let’s get back to the original formula Bradley, Claudia Grant as Susan, Jemma Powell as Barbara, Jamie Glover as Ian, Anna-Lisa Drew as Vicki, Edmund Short as Steven, Sophie Holt as Dodo, Robin Varley as Ben, Ellie Spicer as Polly. As for special effects and budget, take Blake's 7 that was classic British sci-fi at its best like the original Dr Who, brilliant stories, acting that’s what makes for good television that stands the test of time. OK the sets were clunky and constructed from polystyrene, but it didn’t matter because of the quality of the writing. Whilst it’s nice to have computer graphics and a bigger budget, if that’s at the expense of good stories and acting, lets go back to lower budgets and quality script writing. Then the fans will return and Dr Who will attract a new audience, otherwise its game over.

They could shoot Doctor Who in a council house with a phone camera, and if the story was good it would be great.

The only thing keeping DW going is Disney. When it pulls out, the show is done.

Boom was the perfect example. I found the sfx in that episode distracting ting, more so than if it had been cheaply filmed in a quarry. I felt nothing looked real. So I for one would prefer either more restraint with the larger budget, or just return to a smaller budget.

My head Canon is the daleks Got the colored officer idea from human scifi. The idea that they constantly consider themselves superior and incorruptible is consistently proven wrong almost every encounter they’ve ever had with the doctor.

I love Doctor Who, but I can't help but think things still have been going downhill on average. New Doctor's and Companions I'm fine with. Individuals stories haven't been as hooking and overall plots not that thrilling.

Honestly, I'd rather have BBC budget with well written stories that are given the needed time to develop, than top tier budget badly written or okay written but rushed because each episode needs to look like a Marvel movie so there's no time to flesh things out. All needs to be fast paced and in short seasons bc you can sustain several episodes if each 1hr long with top tier budget. That's just not sustainable.

My personal feeling is that the BBC is a public service broadcaster, first and foremost. The biggest profit, or the biggest budget, should not be the name of the game. Doctor Who should be at the cutting edge of story telling. That doesn't require big budgets. Admittedly, though, for a show that promises "all of time and space", budget does help. I think the BBC could benefit from making Doctor Who a co-production with another country's public service broadcaster. I have Australia's ABC in mind, but America's PBS could be a good fit, or Ireland's RTÉ. The show has been a pokey British oddity for 60+ years; it's time to embrace other perspectives, it's time to broaden the diversity of the production and writing staff, to tell new and different stories.

They need to find an actual new blood to replace RTD. And, of course, to kick Gatwa out as soon as possible. He's a good actor (somewhat), but he's as bad for the role as Schwarzenegger.

If I had to guess what would happen, based on what we know, it's this: We'll get season around the same time next year. The Sea Devils/UNIT spinoff will air late in 2025 (or early 2026 at the latest.) Then we'll get season 3 in mid to late 2026. Then Fall will be the regular time for future seasons. That would actually work better, because it would get better ratings in the Fall than in the Spring. Yeah, it's 1.5 years between seasons, but we'll have the spinoff in between to make it seem shorter.

What is a full season? What does it even mean anymore? If they wanted to they could do one or two episodes or a couple movie lengths and call it a season.

I just can't look at you mentioning Torchwood season 3 and still talking about all this with a straight face, I atleast can understand forgetting how good it was before and praising new VFX, but when you deliberately mention a masterpiece of storytelling you just can't keep defending everything that comes out now, it takes a blind to comare two and tell which one was done better in terms of about everything

Btw, if the BBC goes back to making Doctor Who on it’s own, then they would more than likely bring DW back to Free-to-air services INTERNATIONALLY, and that wouldn’t be the worst thing.

Do i think disney money helps doctor who? Yes. Do i think it needs it? No. Disney money to doctor who to me is kind of like putting ronaldo in £4000 football boots. Yes it helps, yes it makes him a bit better, but he will also be fantastic if you put him in a pair of old boots you got from the charity shop. Doctor who will always be on going…. Even if the bbc went bust, there would be production companies queuing to buy the IP as it is the longest airing sci fi series….. it is as established in the tv world as star trek and the only thing that sets it apart from doctor who is its movies which to put it bluntly, is a case of a better owner budget being a possibility. Doctor who will be made for the next 30 years in some way, shape or form!

I have watched several videos on KZbin, telling the world that either Ncuti Gatwa is sacked from “Doctor Who or the complete opposite, in reality, the ratings will decide. The more I think of it, the more I think it would be best if “DW” finished and the effort, talents and resources put into a completely new show. The last series, was well played and produced, but it really became just a collection of clever references to old seasons and characters, which are meaningless to new viewers, it has almost become a ‘tribute act’ to “DW” in it’s heyday. I realise this is heresy to many, but I really think "Doctor Who" should be of blessed memory.

Everyone was shouting delight when Disney came on board and now everyone is wishing they would go away. It all seems to be very convoluted and complicated and it never used to be. That's big corps. for you. I long for the days when everything was less manipulative and fans were treated with a bit more dignity. The lack of the latter boils down mostly to RTD who whether you're a fan or not has continually built up expectations to enormous heights to then have most peoples plummet. And yet he still does this hyperbole approach and that photo of him on the Tardis is an obvious fake. He needs to stop toying with everyone and everything. Either be open or say nothing.

To be honest the 15th Doctor has grown on me but I can deal without the GAY stuff. The 15th Doctor is smart, kind, friendly and he’s like the 13th doctor. People didn’t like the 13th at first and now people love her. Please give the 15th doctor some time, I would also like to see some old villains return, cybermen or the weeping angels or The Master in season 2 and 3!!!

What a let down. Despite ever-larger budgets, the show is now producing less episodes per year than they achieved with Doctors 9, 10, 11 & 12 (which in turn was less than what was produced in classic who per series). Hardly value for money, frankly.
