1The texts of the Quran, the authentic Sunnah, and the consensus of scholars clearly indicate the prohibition of music and musical instruments. *In the Quran* - Allah said in Surah Luqman, verse 31:6 (approximate translation of the meaning of the verse): "And among the people are those who, devoid of knowledge, buy pleasant speeches to mislead others from the way of Allah and take it in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment." قال الله تعالى : ومن النّاس من يشتري لهو الحديث ليضلّ عن سبيل الله بغير علم ويتخذها ه According to Abu Sahba, the companion 'Abdallah Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said concerning this verse: "I swear by Allah that it refers to music." (Reported by Al Hakim in his Mustadrak no. 3599, which he authenticated, and Imam Dhahabi approved it. It was also authenticated by Sheikh Albani in the Silsila Sahiha vol 6 p 1017) عن أبي الصهباء قال عبدالله بن مسعود رضي الله عنه في هذه الآية : هو و الله العناء (رواه الحاكم في المستدرك ٣٥٩٩ و صححه و وافقه الذهبي و صححه الشيخ الألباني في السلسلة الصحيحة ج ٦ ص ١٠١٧) The companion 'Abdallah Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said concerning this verse: "Music and what resembles it." (Reported by Bukhari in Al Adab Al Moufrad no. 1265 and authenticated by Sheikh Albani in Sahih Al Adab Al Moufrad no. 955) عن عبد الله بن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال في هذه الأية : الغناء و أشباهه (رواه الإمام البخاري في الأدب المفرد رقم ١٢٦٥ و صححه الشيخ الألباني في صحيح الأدب المفرد رقم ٩٥٥) According to Habib, Mujahid (who died in 104 AH) said concerning this verse: "Music." (Reported by Ibn Abi Dounia in Dham Al Malahi no. 32 and authenticated by the editor of this work) عن حبيب قال مجاهد في هذه الأية : الغناء (رواه ابن أبي الدنيا في ذم الملاهي رقم ٣٢ و صححه محقق هذا الكتاب) - Allah also mentioned that listening to music is part of the characteristics of the disbelievers. He said in Surah Najm, verses 53:59-61 (approximate translation of the meaning of the verse): "Is it at this discourse that you marvel? You laugh and do not weep while you are 'samidoun.'" قال الله تعالى : أفمن هذا الحديث تعجبون / و تضحكون و لا تبكون / و أنتم سامدون (سورة النجم ٥٩ إلى ٦١) According to Ikrima, the companion 'Abdallah Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) said concerning the word 'samidoun': "This means music in the Himyar language (*)". (Reported by Ibn Abi Dounia in Dham Al Malahi no. 33 and authenticated by the editor of this work) (*) This is a dialect of Arabic. عن عكرمة قال ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما في الأية ' و أتم سامدون ' ، قال : هو الغناء في الحميرية (رواه ابن أبي الدنيا في ذم الملاهي رقم ٣٣ و صححه محقق هذا الكتاب)

2 In the Sunnah* According to Abu Malik Al Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There will be people in my community who will make lawful adultery, silk, wine, and musical instruments." (Reported by Bukhari in his Sahih no. 5590) عن أبي مالك الأشعري رضي الله عنه قال النّبي صلّى الله عليه و سلّم : ليكوننّ من أمّتي أقوام يستحلّون الحر والحرير والخمر والمعازف (رواه البخاري في صحيحه رقم ٥٥٩٠) According to Nafi': 'Abdallah Ibn 'Omar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) heard a musical instrument. So he put his fingers in his ears and moved away from the path. He said to me: O Nafi! Do you hear anything? I said: No. So he removed his fingers from his ears and said: I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) when he heard something like this, and he did as I just did. (Reported by Abu Dawood in his Sunan no. 4924 and authenticated by Sheikh Albani in his correction of Sunan Abu Dawood) عن نافع قال : سمع عبدالله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما مزمارًا فوضع أصبعيه على أذنيه ونأى عن الطريق وقال لي : يا نافع ! هل تسمع شيئًا ؟ According to Anas Ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There are two voices that are cursed in this world and in the Hereafter: the voice of the musical instrument in times of joy and the voice of lamentation in times of sorrow." (Reported by Al Bazar and authenticated by Sheikh Albani in Sahih Al Jami' no. 3801) عن أنس بن مالك ضي الله عنه قال رسول الله صلّى الله عليه و سلّم : صوتان ملعونان في الدنيا و الآخرة : مزمار عند نعمة ورنة عند مصيبة (رواه البازار و حسنه الشيخ الألباني في صحيح الجامع رقم ٣٨٠١) According to 'Imran Ibn Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them), the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There will be in this community people who will be swallowed by the earth, people who will be disfigured, and people who will receive stones from the sky." One man among the Muslims said: O Messenger of Allah! When will this occur? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When female singers and musical instruments become apparent and when wines are consumed." (Reported by Tirmidhi in his Sunnan no. 2212 and authenticated by Sheikh Albani in his correction of Sunan Tirmidhi) عن عمران بن حصين رضي الله عنهما قال النّبي صلّى الله عليه و سلّم : في هذه الأمة خسف و مسخ و قذف فقال رجل من المسلمين : يا رسول الله ! و متى ذاك ؟ قال النّبي صلّى الله عليه و سلّم : إذا ظهرت القينات و المعازف و شربت الخمور (رواه الترمذي في سننه رقم ٢٢١٢ و حسنه الشيخ الألباني في تحقيق سنن الترمذي) According to 'Abdallah Ibn 'Amr (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah has prohibited my community from wine, gambling, mizr (1), tambourine, and ghabira (2), and He has added to me a prayer, which is the witr." (Reported by Ahmed and authenticated by Sheikh Albani in Sahih Al Jami' no. 1747) (1) This is an alcoholic beverage. (2) This is a stringed musical instrument. عن عبدالله بن عمرو رضي الله عنهما قال النّبي صلّى الله عليه و سلّم : إنّ الله حرّم على أمّتي الخمر و الميسر و المزر و الكوبة و الغبيراء و زادني صلاة الوتر (رواه أحمد و صححه الشيخ الألباني في صحيح الجامع رقم ١٧٤٧) According to Abu Malik Al Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There will be people from my community who will drink wine and call it by another name, there will be musical instruments and female singers who will sing for them. Allah will swallow them into the earth and turn them into monkeys and pigs." (Reported by Ibn Maja in his Sunnan no. 4020 and authenticated by Sheikh Albani in his correction of Sunan Ibn Maja) عن أبي مالك الأشعري رضي الله عنه قال النّبي صلّى الله عليه و سلّم : ليشربنّ ناس من أمّتي الخمر يسمّونها بغير اسمها يعزف على رءوسهم بالمعازف والمغنيات يخسف الله بهم الأرض ويجعل منهم القردة والخنازير (رواه ابن ماجه في سننه رقم ٤٠٢٠ و صححه الشيخ الألباني في تحقيق سنن ابن ماجه) Note: There have also been reported accounts from the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the early Muslims on this subject. According to Oum Alqama: 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) saw in her brother's house a singer who was singing and moving his head, so she said: "Uff! A devil! Get him out, get him out." (Reported by Imam Bukhari in Al Adab Al Moufrad no. 1247 and authenticated by Sheikh Albani in Sahih Al Adab Al Moufrad no. 945) عن أم علقمة أن عائشة رأت في بيت أخيها مغني يتغنى و يحرك رأسه طرباً فقالت : أفّ ! شيطان ! أخرجوه أخرجوه (رواه الإمام البخاري في الأدب المفرد رقم ١٢٤٧ و حسنه الشيخ الألباني في صحيح الأدب المفرد رقم ٩٤٥) According to Ibrahim, 'Abdallah Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Music cultivates hypocrisy in the heart." (Reported by Al Bayhaqi and authenticated by Imam Ibn Qayim in Ighathatoul Lahfan 1/247, by Sheikh Ibn Baz in Majmou Al Fatawa 9/388, and by Sheikh Albani in Silsila Daifa vol 5 p 450) - According to Nafi': Some people in ihram (1) passed by 'Abdallah Ibn 'Omar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) while there was a man among them who was singing. So 'Abdallah Ibn 'Omar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) said: "Indeed, may Allah not hear you, indeed, may Allah not hear you (2)." (Reported by Ibn Abi Dounia in Dham Al Malahi no. 44 and authenticated by the editor of this work) (1) Meaning they had begun the rites of Hajj or Umrah. (2) This means that he invoked against them so that Allah would not answer their supplications because they were engaged in an act of worship for Allah, and despite that, they were disobeying because there was a man singing, and the others were listening to him without forbidding it. عن نافع ، أن ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما مر عليه قوم محرمون و فيهم رجل يتغنى فقال : ألا لا سمع الله لكم ، ألا لا سمع الله لكم (رواه ابن أبي الدنيا في ذم الملاهي رقم ٤٤ و صححه محقق هذا الكتاب) According to 'Abdallah Ibn Dinar: I went out with 'Abdallah Ibn 'Omar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) to the market. He passed by a little girl who was singing, and he said: "Indeed, if Satan had left even a single person, he would have left her." (Reported by Bukhari in Al Adab Al Moufrad no. 784 and authenticated by Sheikh Albani in Sahih Al Adab Al Moufrad no. 602) عن عبدالله بن دينار قال : خرجت مع عبدالله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما إلى السوق فمرّ على جارية صغيرة تغني فقال : إن الشيطان لو ترك أحداً لترك هذه (رواه الإمام البخاري في الأدب المفرد رقم ٧٨٤ و حسنه الشيخ الألباني في صحيح الأدب المفرد رقم ٦٠٢) According to Al Awza'i: 'Omar Ibn Abdel Aziz (who died in 101 AH) wrote a letter to 'Omar Ibn Al Walid in which he stated: "The fact that you have made the drums and musical instruments apparent is an innovation in Islam." (Reported by Nasai in his Sunnan no. 4135 and authenticated by Sheikh Albani in his correction of Sunan Nasai) عن الأوزاعي قال : كتب عمر بن عبدالعزيز إلى عمر بن الوليد كتاباً و فيه : و إظهارك المعازف و المزمار بدعة في الإسلام (رواه النسائي في سننه رقم ٤١٣٥ و صححه الشيخ الألباني في تحقيق سنن النسائي) --"Repent, ask forgiveness from God before you die, remove this video, and abandon the instrument of the devil, namely music. Be modest and stop displaying yourself, my sister; it is contrary to Islamic principles. My goal is to reform you; I am making this reminder publicly so that the brothers and sisters do not trivialize the sin that is music." MAY ALLAH GUIDE US.

(Reported by Ibn Maja in his Sunnan no. 4020 and authenticated by Sheikh Albani in his correction of Sunan Ibn Maja) عن أبي مالك الأشعري رضي الله عنه قال النّبي صلّى الله عليه و سلّم : ليشربنّ ناس من أمّتي الخمر يسمّونها بغير اسمها يعزف على رءوسهم بالمعازف والمغنيات يخسف الله بهم الأرض ويجعل منهم القردة والخنازير (رواه ابن ماجه في سننه رقم ٤٠٢٠ و صححه الشيخ الألباني في تحقيق سنن ابن ماجه) Note: There have also been reported accounts from the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the early Muslims on this subject. According to Oum Alqama: 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) saw in her brother's house a singer who was singing and moving his head, so she said: "Uff! A devil! Get him out, get him out." (Reported by Imam Bukhari in Al Adab Al Moufrad no. 1247 and authenticated by Sheikh Albani in Sahih Al Adab Al Moufrad no. 945) عن أم علقمة أن عائشة رأت في بيت أخيها مغني يتغنى و يحرك رأسه طرباً فقالت : أفّ ! شيطان ! أخرجوه أخرجوه (رواه الإمام البخاري في الأدب المفرد رقم ١٢٤٧ و حسنه الشيخ الألباني في صحيح الأدب المفرد رقم ٩٤٥) According to Ibrahim, 'Abdallah Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Music cultivates hypocrisy in the heart." (Reported by Al Bayhaqi and authenticated by Imam Ibn Qayim in Ighathatoul Lahfan 1/247, by Sheikh Ibn Baz in Majmou Al Fatawa 9/388, and by Sheikh Albani in Silsila Daifa vol 5 p 450) - According to Nafi': Some people in ihram (1) passed by 'Abdallah Ibn 'Omar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) while there was a man among them who was singing. So 'Abdallah Ibn 'Omar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) said: "Indeed, may Allah not hear you, indeed, may Allah not hear you (2)." (Reported by Ibn Abi Dounia in Dham Al Malahi no. 44 and authenticated by the editor of this work) (1) Meaning they had begun the rites of Hajj or Umrah. (2) This means that he invoked against them so that Allah would not answer their supplications because they were engaged in an act of worship for Allah, and despite that, they were disobeying because there was a man singing, and the others were listening to him without forbidding it. عن نافع ، أن ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما مر عليه قوم محرمون و فيهم رجل يتغنى فقال : ألا لا سمع الله لكم ، ألا لا سمع الله لكم (رواه ابن أبي الدنيا في ذم الملاهي رقم ٤٤ و صححه محقق هذا الكتاب) According to 'Abdallah Ibn Dinar: I went out with 'Abdallah Ibn 'Omar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) to the market. He passed by a little girl who was singing, and he said: "Indeed, if Satan had left even a single person, he would have left her." (Reported by Bukhari in Al Adab Al Moufrad no. 784 and authenticated by Sheikh Albani in Sahih Al Adab Al Moufrad no. 602) عن عبدالله بن دينار قال : خرجت مع عبدالله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما إلى السوق فمرّ على جارية صغيرة تغني فقال : إن الشيطان لو ترك أحداً لترك هذه (رواه الإمام البخاري في الأدب المفرد رقم ٧٨٤ و حسنه الشيخ الألباني في صحيح الأدب المفرد رقم ٦٠٢) According to Al Awza'i: 'Omar Ibn Abdel Aziz (who died in 101 AH) wrote a letter to 'Omar Ibn Al Walid in which he stated: "The fact that you have made the drums and musical instruments apparent is an innovation in Islam." (Reported by Nasai in his Sunnan no. 4135 and authenticated by Sheikh Albani in his correction of Sunan Nasai) عن الأوزاعي قال : كتب عمر بن عبدالعزيز إلى عمر بن الوليد كتاباً و فيه : و إظهارك المعازف و المزمار بدعة في الإسلام (رواه النسائي في سننه رقم ٤١٣٥ و صححه الشيخ الألباني في تحقيق سنن النسائي) Repent, ask forgiveness from God before you die, remove this video, and abandon the instrument of the devil, namely music. Be modest and stop displaying yourself, my sister; it is contrary to Islamic principles.
