It feels to me that the fact that the book was inspired by Harry Styles blinds you to a compelling story of a 40 year old single woman with an older teenager daughter who has a relationship with a younger man. In the book the man is 20 which I was not comfortable with. In the movie they aged him up to mid twenties. In society today women over a certain age are not 'allowed' to have certain experiences such as be in a relationship with a significantly younger man. This story deals with their age difference, his fame and the crazy fans that comes with that, her daughter as well as society's expectations for her. It's a beautiful story of a woman who rediscovers her womanhood as an older woman in society and the joy and pitfalls of being her authentic self.
