What a shame about the loud and jarring 'music' which has a very different mood from the process of artisanal crafts and is just annoying, . Some interesting parts but more attention to whether the commentary actually matches what is being shown on screen would have been very welcome. e.g. 'Each piece is moulded into shape' when the guy is not moulding anything, he is 'wedging' the clay, 'this lump of clay will make 3 or 4 pots' when it looks more like enough for ten (why not show it being divided), and more actual information about the processes, eg we see the man using some strange technique to consolidate and even the edges, is he doing that with his fingernails or does he have a tool in his hand that we can't see, what actually happens during burnishing, what stones are used and where do they get those from, more about the reduction process and what 'ferrosoferric' oxide is etc....

I'm half Native American and the other half is Irish, British and Scot. My mother is 4/4 Native American and her maternal side of the family have been potters for generations. I love watching other traditional potters create their art and this was a treat because it is VERY similar to our processes. I've never made cookware (I have inherited my ancestral pottery making skills) but I just might do it since I'm an amazing cook and baker. ❤ Thank you. Best regards from Utah. ~ Shannan (Non-she-pah-yuh [translation "Pottery Maker"])

These Columbians need to sell this on their own and stop living in poverty. They do all the hard work and someone else gets the money. Not right.

Id much prefer to go to this village and buy directly from them, to ensure they get the majority of the $ for their dedicated hardwork and for sharing the beautiful creations of their culture. Absolutely stunning pieces.

Question for anyone who may know: I notice that whenever I wash a piece of this pottery, it turns the water a dark grey. Is this color getting into the food when I cook with it or eat/drink from it? Thank you

Just the info I needed. Just finished a diy woodburner for my '58 Airstream & gonna do dat. I used to just pile wood on my pottery w free dried goat, emu & cow pies to get that Navajo black but no sheep poop, (This is Texas, "Get a rope") when I lived in the "sticks" on the San Gabriel River. BUTT, now I live in a "civilized" park in Bastrop. DON'T think they would take too kindly to that. Prob.too much info. but I got stoked. Great vid, Dude. P. S since I just turned 78 & DON'T live on the coast any longer. Maybe I'll give up the surf jargon. Just sayin.

Exquisitely beautiful pottery! Fascinating to see how it is made, molded, fired, then treated to seal. I always wondered why pottery was as expensive as crystal glass. Now I know, it is extensively, heavily labor oriented. So appreciative of the skill and craftsmanship of these people.

Lmao its ceramic cookware. Used everywhere in the world. And 100% inferior to metal and borosilicate glass which is why wealthy nations switched.

Looked like dry clay to me. You won’t get answers about their trade secrets though. That’s literally their secret.

@@ThePinkBinks Fair enough too. But I hate mysteries lol.
@ThePinkBinks2 жыл бұрын
Kayenne54 Same here yeah. Unfortunately trade secrets are a person’s bread and butter and crafts people are always used if they let on what they are. Thing is though: this is a marketing video. Maybe the crafters are happy to share. It’s an ancient technique known around the world so you might find more info that way. Scroll down the other comments and you’ll see people posting alternative names for this pottery in their local culture. I’m pretty sure that powder was the same grey sieved clay they make the pots out of as it wouldn’t make sense to me to use anything else. It looks exactly like dusting the board with flour before rolling bread dough and for the same reason. It’d give a nice smoothness to the side facing the board that would then transfer to the mould without getting micro cracks in it. At least that’s what I think. I’m no expert obviously but it’s a mystery I’d like to figure out as it may come in very useful.

I have some of this cookware. I used it all the time..planned to get some more gradually..For some reason, when I 'updated' my kitchen and got a ceramic hob, these dishes started to smoke which they had not done on my solid electric cooker.. Strange. Any comments anyone?
@ThePinkBinks2 жыл бұрын
Ceramic hob. Say that again. Ceramic… hob. Hot stone on stone of a similar type like that equals cracks. You’re gonna break them.

I sort of backed into a recent interest in pottery from trying to find out how to find clay for a straw bale home. I’m getting all sorts of suggestions for ceramic channels to view but I had to stop and watch this one, simply because You spell your first name with one T, as I do. We are a rare breed indeed!
