I've heard that any records that might still exist, of insane asylums in Ohio, such as Longview, would be in archives in the state capital, Columbus, now. Dorothea Dix did research, and campaigned to have asylums built, so people wouldn't be street homeless or in prison, yet, neglect and abuse happened at asylums.

I wouldn't call it a diaspora. What Domincans have done is emigrated. They moved on from the Dominican Republic and chose to send money back than to return, or split in 2. Naturalized immigrants or emmigrated Dominicans comparing dreams. Diasporans share culture or return to their land.

You are mistaken, many Dominicans eventually do return to their island. Many come to the US for employment and education purposes and then return to their homeland after a period of time.

Didn't know the Slow Food movement originiated in 1986... great info! I also enjoyed hearing about some of the origins of "street food" and contemplating on what makes it such a popular phenomenon throughout the ages. I laughed at Theophrastus's "uncivilized" comment 😄

Right... "Took us 10 years to catch him". Uhhuh. Sad part about the espionage act is that it applies to governments not the public, and all five branches of government have no express or binding obligation to protect or serve American the public. Weird how that never gets mentioned anywhere ever in the anything.

The immaculate conception of Mary has nothing to do with the virgin birth. Mary was conceived without sin. Her parents were Anne and Joachim; very holy people. When Mary was conceived we believe that the Holy Spirit snatched original sin away from Mary at that moment. Jesus, being God, was also immaculately conceived of course. That Jesus was born of a virgin as prophesied, refers to Mary's perpetual virginity.

This so called scholar is full of it. His arguments to weaken the Islamic sources, can be applied to Christianity directly. The early Christian resources are about 150 years of claimed appearance of Jesus. Also, the very existence of Jesus is in Question. while there is a tomb of Muhammad in the city of Medinah. a physical proof that he lived among those people. So, If Christian background is no less shaky than the background of Islam, we should start questioning the "Christian Arab" claim in the first place. It is a well known fact that until some 300 years, after the claimed appearance if Jesus, Christianity, was used to refer to any strange belief and obscure cult. And, it is still true today. From Mormonism, to Christian Science, what is referred to as Christianity is simply a regional majority or a head count issue. Considering the fact that, the so called Bible is no less questionable historically than the existence of Jesus, this becomes even more problematic to establish an argument over "Christian Arabs, decided to invent a new religion" deduction. Because, the Christianity of the past seems to be far from being the same Christianity of white men of today. If, those Arabs who invented a new religion were Christians, then we should clearly define what kind of Christianity did those Arabs embrace. However, if we can not find any reliable source for the origins of Islam from that era then we can not find any reliable source that those Arabs were Christians from the same era, as well. What were those Arabs orthodox, Catholic, or were they the first Protestant Christians, or maybe they were the first Jehova's witnesses. If, you can not tell what kind of Christians those Arabs were, this argument collapses from the beginning. And that is what it is a half baked gaseous discharge.

These are historians who build a false history that derives its information from speculations that agree with their whims that deviate from the truth. First, Islam is the religion of God, and the Qur’an was written during the era of the companions of the Messenger of God, and the first to collect the Qur’an were the close companions, and the first was Abu Bakr. The friend, may God be pleased with him, as well as the companions who unified the Qur’an, Uthman bin Affan, may God be pleased with him. The Qur’an was written during the era of the Messenger of God, Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, and it was transmitted to us through a continuous text and oral transmission that can never be falsified.

Very beautiful presentation by Tala. However one would argue that there was an Islamic equivalent of the “Christian Gaze” long before the French invaded Tunisia. This was manifested much more intensely as the state and religion were inseparable, causing the Berbers to deviate from their indigenous religions and convert to Islam. All religions assume some sort of supremacy, and any other thing is seen as a deviation from the norm for their devotees.

Phillipines was colonized, brutalized by America so much so that it does not seem to have its own language or culture which i am sure it once had. American missionaries wrought havoc in that and many other nations. America uses democracy as a punch line during debates even while hobnobbing with military dictators when it suits the country!

There is no Septuigant before Jesus came. The only evidence is a few hundred years after the NT was completed. Don't be a lapdog for scholarship, these cats get paid to lie. Don't you think it strange that there are so many conflicting bible versions put out by 👉scholars👈 since 1880? Seminary is a scam that censors the truth on key topics, and this is one of the biggest. I wonder how long this post will last before they pull it down?

US has made huge profits from trading with China, it is not China's fault that the 1% has kept all the money while ignoring the fate of the low and middle classes that have been disadvantaged. This is an internal US class and wealth transfer problem that has nothing to do with China.

At 10:50 there is factual error on part of the the guest speaker, Szeklerland (Székelyföld) does not want to break away but want to be an autonomous territory within Romania. Since its has its own ethnic population (szeklers/székely - a subgroup of hungarians) and language. Saying its wants to break away is fearmongering on part of the romanian nacionalist parties. The problem here Romanian state thinks in one nation, which does not allow plurality or diversity, everyone is romanian, when its tradionally a multiethnic country. So the autonomy request is mostly about language usage as it is now quite limited. Otherwise interesting video, thanks.

I found this lecture fascinating because I am aware of most of the facts. Haphazardly over the years I have had occasion to read these histories. At the age of 14 my father purchase an old broken down ranch on the banks of the Sanpitch River in the little town of Chester Utah. Chester was located just 14 miles north of Manti Utah where the Black Hawk war began in 1865 . The year I arrived was 1962 approximately 100 years later. The property that my father purchased encompassed a good portion of what was called at that time the "Moroni Meadows". We were told that the Ute Indians had made these meadows their main camp until they were moved to the reservation. I had little understanding of Indians at that age other than what I had watched on TV and in the movies. In those days the Indians were portrayed as you might guess, dangerous enemies of the White Man. Fear, was mostly what I felt towards Indians even though I had never met an Indian. I did meet a Navajo boy in High School the next year and we became friends and remained friends over the years. I was awed with the history and sermons of Brigham Young. He had enormous responsibilities and challenges as he dealt with moving the Mormons out of the reach of a Nation that hated them to the point of extermination. Not only did he have to deal with the Mormon people that had been brutalized and driven from their beautiful city of Nauvoo but he also had to deal with the great influx of immigrants that migrated from Britain and Scandinavia who didn't own fire arms nor had they ever dreamt of interacting with the native Americans. He had to deal with angry people on the one hand and naive people on the other. The US moved against the Mormons in the War of 1858 with the best equipped army (Johnson's Army) the country had ever produced up that point in it's history and Brigham Young had to deal with that as well. History is what it is. I am part of the legacy of Brigham Young and I have had a pretty good life so things turned out well for me. I am grateful for John Turner and his interest in our history from an outsiders point of view and for this lecture that keeps the spot light on the great people I admire and venerate. BYU BS 1974 and MEd 1979.

This not really a contradiction of Islamic tradition that says it is a continuation of Judeo Christian tradition. Indeed the oral tradition says Islam is a continuation of *all* human religion. The more interesting question would be when and how Islam took its own identity.
