@@BYoungDesign whooaaa! That’s wildddd! Architect. Thank you for the study guides. Your guides really helped me focus my studying for the contract related tests. Those contract tests were intimidating. The audio lectures you shared were GOLD. I’ll save those forever. Dunno if I could have been this efficient in passing all 6 without your help. Didn’t have to buy any courses, just put my nose in the books and keep reading. I do have a construction background. That really helped too. Started studying October 15th, 2023… 1 year ago. ☺️ All that said, THANK YOU!

My second attempt at PA is next week (my fourth exam). This will be the shortest time between an exam and a retake. Tip 5 felt especially relevant for me

Thank You Byoung for providing that. I agree that once you start taking the exams to complete them. Don't sit on it for ever. When you think about a 5-7 year cycle. If you started 5.0 early in cycle you have until end of 6.0 before your 5.0 exams expires. Now, once you pass all divisions, then you should get that passed on to the state licensing board where you are getting licensed especially if you have other steps to get licensed whether that be by an experience based path to license, some kind of education/experience combination, or an NCARB standard path to licensing. Once all exam are taken and passed for the particular ARE exam version... say 5.0, those exams should be valid from that point indefinitely... but if you done 3 of the divisions then not do the rest over the next 10 years, then do one 6.0 exam in the last year it is done, those 5.0 exams can possibly be expired out. So complete the exams and try to not take 10-20 years to complete the exams. It becomes harder to determine if you been properly tested for the exams. One reason it needs to be this way is the degree of "currency" as in current not money, (applying definition 1(c) - www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/currency - the quality or state of being current ) or in other words, the degree of currentness of the exam. Exams may test you on codes from a model code of a time period. The codes are updated every three years and sometimes mid-cycle amendments by ICC and the various state authorities in charge of the adopted building codes in the particular jurisdiction. So the exams would need to be kept up to some degree because after a while even 2022 IBC would become stale and dated because the current code in a decade could be IBC 2031 or 2031 edition of the I-codes. Most jurisdictions will be somewhat current within one or two editions and few would be as far back as 2022 and earlier by then. Evolving building regulations and the laws that effects us which are incorporated in various ways in the exams. Likewise, even building designer certification exams are updated and be updated by then. Now, individual states may not accept under initial licensure exams before a certain version number to assure those getting licensed have been current and experience relevant. So keep in mind... diddle daddling may still require for example... new exams to be taken. If I took too long, I may have to up-cycle to 6.0 and if I take too long, any 5.0 exam could be invalid and I have to take a 7.0 exam if further procrastinate... the 6.0 exams become stale and I have to be taking 7.0 or 8.0 exams. Now, NCARB may not be at that stage yet, but assume it would be moving into new major version numbers every 5-10 years. Mostly in or around 5-7 year cycle or close to it. This also aligns to ANAB accreditation guidelines for certification/credentials exams. While NCARB's ARE isn't ANAB accredited, the last I recall, they would follow similar psychometric guidelines which are similar... in underlying principles.

@Byoungdesign failing an exam must weigh a lot on your mind because that’s all you think about and if a person has anxiety issues that makes the episode even more intense for them myself included. We all want perfection but you shouldn’t beat yourself up for it. You have to fail at something to get better I hope I explained that well enough for you guys

Hi, thanks for sharing your perspective! I feel myself more on a traditional side, being comfortable with the fact that in this form of a woman I have certain responsibilities in family, and I'm fine with that - being a woman (mother, wife, housekeeper, cook etc.), because it just feels natural to me, and I experience joy in this role. I am also comfortable with the notion of seasons of life. I had my season of delving into family life completely for 7 years now, and the youngest of my 3 sons is now 3 y.o., and I feel now proud and complete in successfully giving all of my kids the best of me (at the same time, staying sane and taking proper care of myself), because they needed it especially in the first years of their lives. I see them being more independent and satisfied now, and so I am ready to take a step into profession, still keeping family as my priority... because I had a season of JUST professional life without a family and it felt so unfulfilling and empty. That time really gave me the sence of priorities in my life. So with all that in mind, I'm going to take some slow but sure steps to evolving in the profession :) Thanks again! So important to have a support of women in similar situations, opportunity to express myself and hear the others. Wishing you to stay balanced!

@@zyma6440 it depends on how much you’re paying for your degree and how driven you are. I personally would not go 60k in debt for an architecture degree. It is not worth it. Not even close. The pay just isn’t there.
