Hi, do you have any dimensions for the rollers at all please?
@lyndakirk Жыл бұрын
Hello Bob, the rollers are made from bosses out of damaged pulleys etc. They are fitted onto, I think, a 4" Meccano and one 4 1/2" Meccano rod. I have been thinking about another one with plastic pulleys stuck onto the rods with super glue! 9 of these brass bosses make one roller wide enough to take a 2 1/2" plate (or 11 plastic ones.)

Quite simply the finest miniature engineering system ever devised. Frank Hornby would be so proud of these models. It doesn't fit modern little houses so easily....)

I am sure I have seen these chaps before ?.Did they not start out with fixed wrists then reappeared in the Playmobil family having had plastic surgery ? Well always pleased to see our continental cousins at work even if they belong to a much later generation! Also since Massey Ferguson had UK/ French and Canadian assembly plants it's rather god they are using Meccano common in those countries rather than Marklin or Constructor variants.

Hello Ojas, these are just parts I had in my collection of Meccano. I made it up myself, it's not from plans or sets. I made it by looking at photos of a Caterpillar D7. Derek if you mean on the robotic car, I had it on 0 minimum and 240 maximum for the video of it upside-down but when I ran it on that setting right way up the tyres did hit chassis when turning, so I moved it down to a lot of different setting to try and get it run and turn smoothly so I cant remember. I didn't actually get it to work that well.

@@lyndakirk Same as me. I have mine set between 95 and 165. Just had to ask. I think we can all agree that the space the servo is in is 0 -180 degrees, so suitable adjustments have to be made. I think the Meccano Men have confirmed that we have definitely cracked this one. 👍

Hi there, I am wondering if you can help - my son made this and filled the hydraluic system with water but the force required to move the hydraulics has made the internal plunger detatch from the rod in 2 of the cylendars. We have enjoyed your fantastic video and I see your hydraulics work very smoothly/easily/effectively. He thinks we should fill the hydraulic system with olive oil but I am not sure if this is a good idea. It doesn't look like you have oil in yours. How did you get the hydraulics to work so well? Thank you.
@lyndakirk3 жыл бұрын
Hi Den, thanks for your lovely comments. I have heard of these braking, that is why I put some olive oil just on the seals. I didn't fill the cylinders with olive oil just enough to lubricate the seals. It did make them work a lot better. I don't think it should damage the seals at all but I don't know as the model is still at our Son's in America and I am in England so haven't been able to use it or test it since, as we haven't been able to get back.

I'm going to build this Robin, I know its not Meccano's finest plan with a few faults in it. Not sure if making it as per the plan first to see how it works then modify it is the best way to go. Did you do this or modify it as you went? Good video.
@lyndakirk5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, I built this from the plans, if you can call them that! Meccano didn't do the best plans in those days. Yes it is a Massey Harris. The gearbox was a nightmare! I did the modifications as I went along. I didn't use a motor as I wanted it work off a crank handle so I built a unit the same size as the electric motor so then I could work it from the crank handle which worked just the wheels. The other crank handle worked the reel and the drum and some pulleys at the back. Having said that about the plans it was fun to build but challenging. My wife made the sack bags just to it a bit of character. The combine is originally built from a No 10 set and it fools you a little bit when they are using a crank arm instead of a collar! That was because they were building from everything within the set, if that makes sense....it fooled me anyway :-). I put straw walkers in the back but I never got around to making the work. Anyway good luck if you make one. I was at the North Midland Meccano Guild meeting about a year ago and a chap had built this using an E15R motor and it worked well.
