this is great information... cost is an important factor. What does this cost?
@theboatgeeks3 күн бұрын
Well, it's like the old question "how much does it cost to build a house?" Depends on design, materials, etc. If you're really interested in a new, custom bed, just give Nick a call. He'll answer all your questions. Better yet, if you're in the Puget Sound area stop by the showroom in Marysville and talk with him in person. You'll be glad you did!

My only gripe is that the forward cabin is too tight. With a beam only 8.5 feet, it should be the width of the boat, from bottom to top.

Sam has been an inspiration to my boat building adventures since 1997 when I stumbled onto his designs. We spoke in 2001 about what I wanted to build next, and he gave me some suggestions and encouragement. I would love to build a Surf Scoter 22, cruiser version some day.

Jeesh all the numpties scared of walking 2 secs in the rain between cabins. It's a great boat. Quirky, yes, but there is clearly a market for it. Nice presentation Geek, thank you.

Perhaps these videos would be a bit better if everyone would lose the sunglasses & keep the equipment out the way of obscuring faces. Great audio quality, but abysmal visuals during the interview parts.
@theboatgeeks2 ай бұрын
Thank you for the feedback. Equipment was purchased when we thought we were going to be an audio-only podcast (2018), but we're saving for better mounts that have a low profile to eliminate pretty much all of the blocking. Unfortunately they're $400 each, so we're not there yet.

I am from Australia and yes mostly coastal. Down there we have our harbours and bays and waterways but nothing like the PNW with the calm waters of the Inside passage. I boated from Sydney up to Queensland, outside the heads it gets rough.

Peter was so helpful with my own 1949 Monk 40 footer. His personal advice and episodes of his show really helped me with owning and restoring my first big wooden boat. Now I have skills that i have been using on my new (to me) 1980 Grand Banks 42 Classic. Thanks Peter! and great show Boat Geeks

Am i the only one that see's an issue with... walking across that deck through pouring rain, rocking boat, to get to the bathroom? Add to that back and forth through rain if you are at dock just to go to bed? imagine trying to winter in that thing?
@theboatgeeks2 ай бұрын
You have mentioned the ONE big thing many folks have issue with the boat. Those that own them, however, still like the layout. To each their own, I guess!
@jenniferstewarts48512 ай бұрын
@@theboatgeeks well it really depends on where you use it. In the med sea, Florida, Texas, California, with moderate to hot weather year round. Stepping out to the bed or bath isn't bad. Maine, north Atlantic, Alaska, Great lakes, where you get storms, cold weather, ice, rain, etc. Having to gear up to cross could get hard. And its designed limits a Bimini over the middle to protect you
@jesperbolopetersen630Ай бұрын
…dont forget being fine with guess having to use the toilet at night. Not sure what the innovative design is about. It’s more or less a polished version of a traditional Danish fishing vessel, but at the same time being impractical for commercial fishing. Sure look’s nice, but what a odd boat.

When it came to running SAR cases (when we REALLY ran em) he had a pair of brass b@]]$ for sinkers, boat fires, working in the shallows, you name it! If you ran things that way nowadays, you'd be relieved. There again...the crews are soft compared to back then

One of my newest concerns!!!! With all boat construction design Cruisers ect: FIREs - Batteries! Batteries have changed!! They work way better! BUT!!! They catch on fire a lot easier!!! Fire and boat is about as bad a horror story that one can think of. Saw one Catamaran that had a flooding battery compartment? That looked interesting? I’d like to see many of these Marine KZbinrs talk about it with solutions and remind Cruisers think about this scenario! A fire at sea is unthinkable
@theboatgeeks2 ай бұрын
Good points, but even today's marine lithium batteries present little fire risk. Battery controllers have come a long way, too. But you're right, no one wants a fire at sea.
