I'm trying to setup Proxmox on a G3 800 SFF, Proxmox has Raid install but it won't boot and shows as 2 boot drives in bios. I guess I'll have to try hardware raid and i think it can only be done on the onboard sata controller and not my pcie adapter. I'll see if i can to ext4 install on the raid volume. Anyone know if there's another way bc I wanted to passthrough onboard to a VM (Trunas).
@handmedowntech2 күн бұрын
Does the G3 SFF support the software mirroring as described in the video? If so then that "raid" only works with Windows. I tried installing proxmox on a machine with the mirroring setup and it didn't see it as a single drive.
@therealmcgimmick2 күн бұрын
@handmedowntech You're right, it doesn't show in install I think can't boot without some big Debian side quest so I'm going to just look to keep a snapshot and/or configure scripts along with vm backups, etc. Apparently if you have to change systems you probably need a reinstall anyway so it's only good for drive failure recovery.

Love the video. I have the Dell variant of this affliction. Rather than potato chips I'd liken this more to them being benign Gremlins. You WILL use it after midnight (after all, that is who we are) and then before you realise there will be more in your presence than you anticipated or could ever need. That is not a bad thing however. Maybe try a Dell Optiplex Micro as a comparison one time? Based on your videos it seems Dells might be more tool-less where it only needs a screwdriver when working on the NVME or expansion slots/WIFI/CPU. SATA & RAM swaps are < 1 min with fingers alone. I've had to create a spreadsheet to manage the resources currently allocated to each of these as they are so easily up/down-gradable they are changing all the time and I have no self-control when one is available for sale for such cheap prices.

But be careful, if the price is low, it may be because the PC is unusable because the bios or "power on" is locked by passwords and I believe that is the only way to unlock them and desolder the BIOS chip, reprogram it and re-solder it. I am not capable of unsoldder/solder and I find it very unfortunate that HP removed the password reset jumper to force us to buy a new motherboard if password is lost... supposedly to limit theft, but not good for the planet. 🤢
