Hello, HMDT. Hey my HP Elitedesk 800 G1 USDT arrived with an Intel i7 4790S cpu. I have never owned or messed with an "S" series CPU before. Ever. After cleaning off the old hardened up thermal paste and a good cleaning then, new thermal paste and an good cleaning of the fans and everything else inside, it runs great! Now I'm trying to figure out which graphics card I can install that's better than the 4600 graphics installed. Hope you are doing well. Really enjoy your videos.

The reason that second NVMe option interferes with the 2.5” caddy…. The battery holder is taller than a “standard” M.2 connector… so that second M.2 connector was picked as a taller model, IN ORDER TO ALLOW THE 2280 drive to clear it.

@@ernestgalvan9037 I just cracked open my G4 and you're so right. The connector needs to be so friggin high to clear the battery. Always wondered why they did that. Does seem like a bit of a wonky decision that ultimately caused the loss of a drive.

The one watt, if configured, with be the Intel AMT. As the NIC has to be alive for it to work. If you have a full blown IPMI/iLO/iDRAC. That will pull around 5-10 watts when the machine is off. For busineses, the admin ease is worth the vampire draw.

I did the same experiment with a g4 i7-8700t and had similar results. There was a 3-4 degree difference between the heatsinks, which was really disappointing. I've also enlarged the intake vents at the front cover and I didn't notice a difference. I like to add Tessa tape between the fan and the heatsink, between the heatsink and the case, and over the #2 screw void. I don't know if really makes a noticeable difference, but it creates a bit of duct like effect, lessening the amount of hot air that goes back into the system.

Just a guess about the inability for the UEFI to self update. The G1s were launched in 2014. HP split into HP and HPE in 2015. Its possible the embedded URL to call home has been turned off or changed during the changeover, since then. If you really want to change the URL to the same as the G3 etc. You can do that with the HP BIOS util. Run it on a G3, write down the update URL. The run the util on the G1 and copy the new URL into it. A faff to do for lots of machines. Which still may not call home correctly if "home" says go away you are too old.

I believe that when HP designed the first mini computer, Dell and Lenovo were in development as well! So like all good production businesses HP anticipated upgrades and redesign features to the mini's hardware. So they decided to label their units with GENERATION 1, followed by GENERATION 2 and on. Generation 1 of the mini PC had some serious design flaws that were corrected in Generation 2. After Generation 2 unfortunately things didn't get any better, they should have left well enough alone. I have several G 3 mini's and, as you know, they removed the thumb screw from the case and rearranged the drive caddy with the SATA cable screwed to it, so in order to take out the drive caddy you have to remove screws from the SATA cable, that's a bummer. G 3 mini's also have a cheap plastic front bezel and if you ever tried to install WiFi in a G 3 it's not easy, the internal WiFi antenna does not fit in the case well. So, long story short...HP should have just rebranded the G2, G3, G4, G4 etc.
