They are quite loud, almost as much noisy as their Eurasian siblings which also scream a lot. I once moved juvenile eurasian jay from parking lot back to its nest and the screaming was audible across whole neighborhood 📣

Do u spritz any water in their enclosure? I just got two tiny black widows and im not sure how i should go about giving them water. Like should i saueeze some on the substrate or spritz some or do they get moisture from the fruit flies?
@Thewidowpeak7 күн бұрын
Yeah I use one of the little spray bottles from the travel section of Walmart. It's a fine enough mist that they can drink from the droplets that get caught in the web. It's a balancing act between too humid and too dry. I find that with adequate ventilation they do fine with daily misting. If it's more sealed I would probably alternate days.

I saved a Northern black widow female from my exterminator friend. She has had 7 eggs, 3 hatched and 1 is about to. Do you have an idea how many fertilized eggs one female can lay?
@allcladesАй бұрын
Most I've ever had from a female Northern was 4 so you have a particularly fertile girl. Brown widows will lay 10 plus eggsacs sometimes and usually those last few are duds or very small. But if they were "well mated" and healthy they can just keep pumping them out.

So, it's an old video now. But I caught one and decided to keep it and turns out it is pregnant. No babies yet, but I would love any advice you have on keeping them. Do I need to separate them from the mother? As cold as it sounds, I don't really mind if they cannibalize, as we don't want to keep a bunch of them. I could also just release the babies when they get here. Would the enclosure self regulate to having one or two babies survive with the mother? What did you end up feeding them? Thanks in advance!
